Kanzaki Rin silently lowered her hand and stood up on her own.
At this moment, this beautiful girl, who was sought after both at the Disaster Countermeasure Department and at school, finally understood what it meant to be delusional.
If she could, she would love to grab Fang Cheng by the head and ask, "In your eyes, is a living person like me not even as important as a few eggs?"
If you want to eat them, I'll buy you a few crates!
Kanzaki Rin didn't say these words out of place, because she could see that Fang Cheng was genuinely angry.
"Hmm..."
On the other side, Yagawa Ryoka also groaned as she crawled up from the floor.
The injuries on half of her face had mostly healed, but her face was still slightly crooked; the broken bones had likely not set back into place properly.
She stared at Fang Cheng in shock, her voice trembling: "Why, why are you still alive?"
This wasn't right. Shouldn't someone die immediately after having their heart ripped out by one of their own kind?
Yagawa Ryoka's instincts told her this was as natural as winter being cold and summer being hot. She didn't know why, but her instincts felt it was an absolute truth.
Yet, Fang Cheng's resurrection defied her instinctive understanding, as unnatural as winter being hot and summer being cold, leaving her feeling disoriented.
Fang Cheng stood up slowly. He knew why he had resurrected: the "3" in his field of vision had changed to a "2."
He had been ambushed and killed by Yagawa Ryoka, using up one life, and now he had two resurrection chances left.
This made Fang Cheng furious, not just at Yagawa Ryoka, but at himself as well.
He had clearly noticed someone tailing him over the past few days, but he had assumed it was someone sent by Morishita Yamato, never imagining it was the vampire Kanzaki Rin had warned him about.
He had emphasized the need to be careful, yet he had let his guard down after only a few days—it was a total slap in the face.
Fang Cheng hadn't found a way to increase his resurrection count yet, so every life was precious to him. Now, he had lost a third of them due to carelessness.
Yagawa Ryoka's clothes had been burned away by Kanzaki Rin's flames, leaving her completely naked.
She had a nice figure, but it was a pity she was flat-chested.
Although Fang Cheng was a lecher, he had standards for aesthetics, so he lost interest in looking further and turned to ask Kanzaki Rin: "Is this the vampire you were talking about?"
"That's right! She is our enemy now; let's put the conflict between you and me aside for the moment."
Kanzaki Rin replied, her vigilant gaze never leaving the other woman since Yagawa Ryoka had crawled up.
Even with Fang Cheng as a helper, victory wasn't guaranteed. A moment of carelessness could lead to a humiliating defeat.
Hearing Kanzaki Rin's words, Yagawa Ryoka immediately retorted angrily: "To think that people from the Disaster Countermeasure Department would collude with a monster! Do you feel no shame toward the taxpayers' money?"
Unlike Fang Cheng, whose memory had been affected, Yagawa Ryoka recognized at first glance that Kanzaki Rin was an intern at the Disaster Countermeasure Department.
This department was even more well-known than the police.
Kanzaki Rin's lips curled slightly, revealing a very punchable, mocking smile: "Feel free to file a complaint against me!"
Yagawa Ryoka was instantly rendered speechless. How could she possibly file a complaint?
Was she supposed to call the Disaster Countermeasure Department and say, "Your intern is colluding with a monster to deal with me, another monster?"
The Disaster Countermeasure Department would probably laugh their heads off.
In the heavy silence, Fang Cheng stepped forward, standing in front of Kanzaki Rin.
Kanzaki Rin looked at his back, feeling a slight warmth in her heart.
Although this guy was dense, foul-mouthed, and cheap, he could still stand in front of a girl at a critical moment. That alone was enough to call him a man.
However, Kanzaki Rin also felt a bit dissatisfied at being underestimated; she wasn't some delicate flower who needed protection.
"You don't have to look after me..."
Just as Kanzaki Rin was about to tell Fang Cheng that he didn't need to give her special treatment, Fang Cheng suddenly turned back to look at her.
"Why are you hiding behind me? Let's attack together; don't think about slacking off."
"..."
A vein popped on Kanzaki Rin's forehead.
She took a deep breath, glared at him fiercely, and said stiffly: "I am a long-range attacker; I don't need to get too close to the enemy."
Retract that previous thought—this guy was a jerk who existed solely to piss her off.
Fang Cheng was confused by the glare, but he immediately understood what was going on.
He wanted to be sarcastic, but he held it back in the end to avoid affecting the fragile alliance between them.
"Fine, then just provide support from the back."
Fang Cheng didn't force the issue. Judging by how Kanzaki Rin had been pinned down and beaten by Yagawa Ryoka earlier, her joining the melee might actually lower their combat effectiveness.
Kanzaki Rin stepped back silently, full of confidence: "No problem, please trust in my support skills."
Seeing this pair of "lovebirds" arrange her fate in just a few words, Yagawa Ryoka felt her rage surging.
But she was stuck in this kitchen, which was an awkward position with nowhere to run; the only exit was blocked by Fang Cheng and Kanzaki Rin.
Yagawa Ryoka would have dared to fight either of these brats individually, but with both of them together, she felt out of her depth.
Especially Fang Cheng, who had returned from the dead; her cheek still throbbed with the pain from the punch he had dealt her.
It was true, then: vampires could inflict true damage upon one another.
But how was he still alive?
Yagawa Ryoka couldn't wrap her head around it, though she never considered that Fang Cheng wasn't a vampire at all, merely assuming he was a special case.
Things had reached this point; there was no possibility of a truce, so there was no need for further empty talk.
Fang Cheng took a slow, deep breath. He was still a little nervous, after all, this was his first time fighting a supernatural being.
Yet, there wasn't a shred of fear in his heart; perhaps the physical strength he had gained from his recent rigorous training had given him ample confidence.
In the midst of this silent standoff, Fang Cheng suddenly moved.
He pushed off the ground and sprinted forward, closing the distance to Yagawa Ryoka in the blink of an eye.
So fast!
Both Yagawa Ryoka and Kanzaki Rin were startled.
Although the distance between them hadn't been great, Fang Cheng's speed was simply too high.
He didn't perform any flashy maneuvers, merely cocking his arm back to deliver a simple, straight punch.
Yet, bolstered by speed and power, the force of this blow appeared somewhat terrifying.
As a vampire, Yagawa Ryoka's reflexes were sharp, and she hurriedly ducked her head to dodge.
The punch grazed the top of her head and slammed into the wall above the stove.
With a loud bang, gravel sprayed everywhere; the sturdy wall had actually been shattered by a single punch.
Yagawa Ryoka slipped past Fang Cheng's side and lunged straight at Kanzaki Rin, seemingly intent on taking her out first.
Kanzaki Rin didn't change her expression, raising her hand to snap her fingers as flames erupted from her fingertips.
Yagawa Ryoka had been prepared and dodged to the side.
Fang Cheng, having just shattered the wall, ignored his bloodied fist and hurriedly turned to pursue Yagawa Ryoka.
As a result, after Yagawa Ryoka dodged, the flames Kanzaki Rin had unleashed slammed directly into Fang Cheng's face, turning him into a human torch.
Kanzaki Rin was startled and hurriedly pulled her hand back; the flames on Fang Cheng's body actually flowed backward through the air and returned to her hand.
However, in that brief moment, Fang Cheng's hair had been scorched into a bird's nest, and he had sustained burns in multiple places.
"What are you doing?!"
Fang Cheng roared at Kanzaki Rin.
Kanzaki Rin blinked, looking as if it had nothing to do with her. "You ran into it yourself."
