Background / History

Fang Cheng originally lived as an isolated high-school student in Area 11. His family had settled there, but the original owner retained his Chinese name and struggled to integrate socially; Asaka Akie was one of the few people who looked after him. After his personality changed, acquaintances such as Fukuda Taro found him unrecognizably confident and proactive. 6 8

He discovered that his apparent immortality was not vampirism: he felt no urge to drink blood, could increase his physical fitness through daily exercise, and possessed game-like progress notifications. To avoid government scrutiny and preserve his freedom, he chose to let others believe he was a vampire. 8 38

His partnership with Kanzaki Rin began through vampire-related incidents. After looting Kuroishi Yuto's corpse, Fang Cheng gained his first major combat abilities and a resurrection charge, establishing corpse looting as the foundation of his growth. 38

Fang Cheng later left Tokyo with his companions for Machine City, judging that the Area 11 government would increasingly restrict an uncontrollable powerhouse. He became closely tied to the Iron-Cast Palace, rose to become Lord of Ten Thousand Monsters, and later became King of the Undead. 418 632 712

Personality

Fang Cheng is confident, irreverent, and sharply opportunistic. He habitually meets threats with jokes, taunts, or shameless bargaining, including demanding compensation after recovering his stolen motorcycle and offering assistance only after negotiating payment. 49 53 180

Despite his flippancy, he is pragmatic about power and secrecy. He conceals the nature of his system, poses as a vampire to avoid becoming a government-controlled research subject, and prefers retreat or preparation over needless prolonged conflict. 38 257 630

He is highly resilient and stubborn under pressure. He endured Takeda Masumi's brutal training, repeated limb severing for hours to assist the Iron-Cast Palace, and repeated deaths against Oni Rakshasa without abandoning the fight. 25 269 281

Fang Cheng is protective of people he considers his own. He repeatedly places himself between allies and danger, including Nangong Saya, Yuguang Kaori, and the Six-Tailed Demon Fox. 234 256 367 562
