The 20th was an ordinary day, but the citizens of the first and second layers of Tokyo felt that something was off.
There were many more Patrol Drones in the sky. Their swift silhouettes could be seen everywhere, monitoring even the shadowy corners they rarely visited.
Armored vehicles and armed police were stationed along some of the main roads. When pedestrians occasionally looked up, they could also see members of the SAT Mobile Team racing through the sky.
The tense atmosphere, as if a great battle were about to begin, did not cause public panic. In fact, some young people gathered by the roadside to take pictures with the armored vehicles, whose exteriors looked incredibly cool.
That was because, two days earlier, the government had announced that an emergency response drill for public incidents would be held on the 20th across the first and second layers.
It was held once or twice every year, and the citizens had long since grown used to it.
But the public had no idea that this time, the emergency drill would use live ammunition. The security alert level had quietly been raised to red, second only to martial law.
A convoy quietly set out from the Third Layer. In the bulletproof sedan at its center sat an elegant, beautiful woman.
She was Yuguang Kaori, the current head of the Yuguang Family, and she was on her way to the second layer to attend a signing ceremony.
She had originally planned to bring her daughter, Ugou Mirai, but Mirai was feeling unwell today and could only stay home to rest.
