They hurried to the monitoring room. Watching the footage sent back by the drone, Fukuda Tadashi's vision went black, and he nearly lost his balance.
On the screen, the vast Hinata Plaza, one of Tokyo's iconic landmarks, had collapsed completely, revealing an enormous pit so deep it seemed almost bottomless.
Terrifying flames and thick smoke surged from the pit, forming a mushroom cloud that shot into the sky.
It seemed the tremor just now hadn't been an earthquake at all, but a terrifying explosion whose shock waves had reached all of Tokyo.
