Gennosuke's thin blade left a trail of bloody gashes across Benimaru's body, but even that wasn't enough to satisfy him.
"Damn you, Benimaru! What do you mean by this? Do you look down on the Uchiha Clan? Or don't you believe what I said, or the promise I made? Are you worried the Uchiha Clan won't truly accept you, or that you won't have a good life even if you return to the clan?"
Gennosuke still couldn't believe Benimaru didn't want to join the Uchiha Clan.
But that was how things were sometimes. What you treasured might be something someone else couldn't care less about.
Covered in wounds, Benimaru still looked indifferent as he replied sarcastically.
"Lord Gennosuke, calm down. Who doesn't admire the Uchiha Clan? I believe everything you've said, too! I believe you'll give us the good life you described. But you never even asked whether we wanted to go with you and live that kind of life."
Benimaru respected Gennosuke, and naturally respected the Uchiha Clan, which Gennosuke took such pride in. But respect didn't mean anything more than that.
Some things, some people, could be wonderful without being all that important.

"Why, Benimaru? Tell me why. What is there to love about this land that brings you nothing but poverty and disaster? You could have something so much better."

"Maybe that's the difference between people like us at the bottom and you nobles."
