Ceremonial cannons boomed one after another, blasting red paper scraps into the air amid the smell of gunpowder. They drifted down like snowflakes, fluttering everywhere in a jubilant celebration.
Compared to the first tournament, which had been passionate and exhilarating yet somewhat disorderly, and the second World's Number One Martial Arts Tournament, which had pursued fairness so excessively that it was rigorous but not much fun, the atmosphere of the third tournament was far more relaxed.
This tournament was no longer like the previous ones, where everyone competed together. Instead, it was divided into three groups.
The first was the Youth Division, which included all contestants under eighteen. The gifted young men and women faced one another here, with a single-elimination format determining the final eight, followed by a round-robin to decide their rankings.
Since the World's Number One Martial Arts Tournament was planned to be held once every ten years, these outstanding youths would be at the very peak of their lives when they competed again. If they were strong enough and lucky enough, perhaps this year's foremost young hero would be a powerful contender for the true title of "World's Number One" next time.
The second was the Rising Stars Division, for all contestants whose strength had not reached the high tier. Frankly speaking, this division was a case of "when there is no tiger in the mountains, the monkey calls himself king." A group of people who had not even reached the high tier fighting over the title of world's number one was bound to invite ridicule. Yet the Northwest Republic actively encouraged mid-tier individuals to participate. On the one hand, the prize money was quite substantial; on the other, they continually approached outstanding performers in an attempt to recruit them.
