Their teacher was Master Mir, one of the Arcane Tower Federation's renowned legendary mages.
This master was known as the "Sage of Life and Death" and possessed profound knowledge of both life and death magic. Yet he had always upheld the stance of the living. Although he had dabbled in necromancy, he had never actively transformed the living into undead.
Tuya'an becoming a necromancer had already displeased Master Mir somewhat. Tuya'an had been too embarrassed to remain in Mir City, so he built his own magic tower far outside the city.
As Master Mir's eldest disciple, and having served as Mir City's lord for many years, Eldest Senior Brother could be called the banner-bearer of the contemporary Mil School. If he too forsook his teacher's teachings and willingly transformed himself into undead just to survive, Master Mir would lose all face and never again be able to hold his head high before other legendary mages.
"I've lived long enough already," Eldest Senior Brother said. "It would naturally be good if I could find a way to extend my lifespan. But if I can't, then so be it. Some things simply must not be done."
Tuya'an could not bring himself to press further. He could only give a bitter smile and use magic to notify his sister to bring some pastries, hoping to ease the slightly awkward atmosphere.
Tessa had known about the guest's arrival from the start. She simply did not like that somewhat old-fashioned Eldest Senior Brother, so she had not intended to come out and meet him. When she received her brother's message, she frowned several times, but she still prepared the pastries and brought them over herself.
Of course, she had not made these pastries herself. She had bought them, from a small street stall at that.
