How many merfolk were there on the Main Plane?
No one had ever made a detailed count, but the number could still be estimated.
Merfolk had an absurdly powerful reproductive capacity. Adult merfolk could lay eggs once a year, around a thousand at a time. The eggs hatched after thirty days, and after roughly three years, they grew mature enough to reproduce. In theory, a pair of adult merfolk could become a thousand adult merfolk plus two thousand juveniles after three years. Another three years later, they would become... Better not calculate it. The number was enough to plunge anyone of sound mind into despair.
Ordinary people often used "an army of a million" to describe the sheer size of a force, but for merfolk, a mere million did not count as a "great army"—in any random invasion by the sea folk, the merfolk army numbered at least several million. Tens of millions were nothing unusual.
And that was generally only the number of merfolk in a single sea region.
If merfolk could not barely be considered Demonic Beasts, surviving solely by absorbing magic power, and if their survival rate were not so low and their death rate so high, then in no more than a few years, the entire world would probably be filled with merfolk.
This time, all the merfolk of the Main Plane had gathered in the waters south of the Supreme Tower. How many could there be?
Billions? Tens of billions? Or even more?
In any case... even though the mages of the Arcane Tower Federation bombarded them without pause, killing hundreds of merfolk every second, it did not count as any kind of loss to the entire merfolk host.
That amount of loss was nothing not only to the army formed by all the merfolk
