Ch. 101Who Is This Little One?
Chapter Summary: “Who Is This Little One?”
Plot and Events
During the second week of the January break, Xue Mingqing begins his journey home from the Sun Moon Empire, bringing Ju Zi with him. His trip has been exceptionally successful: he acquired a million Gold Soul Coins, a mysterious black jade box, the Silver Wings External Soul Bone, and accepted Ju Zi as his younger sister. After traveling through the Sun Moon and Star Luo Empires, they reach Blizzard City in the Extreme North, where Xue Mingqing introduces it to Ju Zi as her new home.
Character Development
Ju Zi has begun recovering from her harsh past. Though still timid and accustomed to fear, she now trusts Xue Mingqing and feels safer around him. However, the prospect of meeting his powerful adoptive mother makes her anxious. Xue Mingqing remains caring and protective toward Ju Zi, reassuring her that Xue Ningxian is kind. His affectionate interaction with his mother also reveals that, despite his intense focus on cultivation, he deeply misses and loves her. Xue Ningxian, meanwhile, is proud of his rapid growth but quietly hurt by how rarely he returns home.
Character Interactions
Xue Mingqing comforts Ju Zi throughout the journey and welcomes her into his family. At Blizzard City, Xue Ningxian greets him with mild reproach for staying away so long, but her actions—touching his hair and sensing his cultivation—show her maternal affection and concern. Xue Mingqing responds warmly, leaning into her touch in a rare display of intimacy. When Xue Ningxian notices Ju Zi, her authoritative presence frightens the girl, who hides behind Xue Mingqing and grips his sleeve.
Significant Themes
The chapter emphasizes family formed through choice rather than blood, as Ju Zi is given a home and Xue Ningxian’s relationship with Xue Mingqing is shown to be genuinely maternal. It also explores the cost of ambition and cultivation: Xue Mingqing’s dedication has made him stronger but kept him distant from his mother. Finally, the contrast between Blizzard City’s imposing grandeur and Ju Zi’s fearful innocence highlights her transition from poverty and insecurity toward belonging and protection.
