Background / History

Dugu Bo owns a medicinal garden at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, containing dozens of immortal-grade herbs. Despite his reputation for poison mastery, his martial soul’s toxins have eroded his meridians for decades. His symptoms include needle-like pain between his third and fourth ribs at the Hour of the Rat, worsening in rainy weather and sometimes making breathing difficult 9.

According to Dugu Bo, Spirit Hall sought to kill him after failing to recruit him. Yue Guan instead accused him of stealing a supreme treasure, a charge Dugu Bo rejected. Wounded and pursued through the Sunset Forest, he appealed to Yu Luomian for protection and assisted him with poison mist until Yue Guan withdrew 8 9.

He initially offered three immortal herbs in gratitude. Yu Tianlin proposed a longer-term arrangement: treatment every half month and a breathing technique usable by both Dugu Bo and Dugu Yan, in exchange for becoming the clan’s Fourth Elder. Dugu Bo accepted and opened his garden to Yu Tianlin. After their expedition, he moved into the Fourth Elder’s courtyard; Yu Yuanzhen’s willingness to include him in confidential council discussions gave him a sense of recognition beyond their original bargain 9 11.

Appearance

Dugu Bo is lean and tall, wears dark green robes, and has snake-like vertical pupils 8 46.

  • Poison aura: Faint poisonous fluctuations linger around him, while combat produces dark green mist 11 47.
  • Martial Soul Avatar: Dark green snake scales cover his body when the Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor merges with him 86.
  • Condition at introduction: Blood-drenched robes, a bone-exposing left-shoulder wound, a deathly pale face, and blood at the corner of his mouth 8.

Personality

Dugu Bo is proud, blunt, and unwilling to leave favors unpaid. He acknowledges the debt created by the clan’s rescue and Yu Tianlin’s treatment, while warning that sheltering him will invite trouble from Spirit Hall. He later tells Dugu Yan that both their lives were saved by Yu Tianlin, urging her to recognize the importance of that obligation 9 41.

His habitual snorts and relaxed manner coexist with genuine protectiveness. He worries when separated from Yu Tianlin, checks him for poisoning after the Pufferfish battle, and tends to him after the sect’s defense. In combat, he remains cautious even after gaining the upper hand: he petrifies Pufferfish rather than risk a dying Titled Douluo’s counterattack 10 47 48 77.

Abilities & Skills

Jade Phosphorus Snake Emperor Poison

  • Shapes poisonous mist into vipers, giant pythons, and multiple serpents attacking from different angles 8 47.
  • Corrodes clothing, defensive armor, meridians, vegetation, and even Pufferfish Douluo’s petrified remains 8 47 48.
  • Is especially effective against groups of lower-level soul masters; its battlefield impact helps force Spirit Hall to abandon its attack on the clan 77 86 89.
  • Limits: The mysterious purple forest mist devours his poison within three breaths. Demon Bear Douluo’s protective soul power also repels more than half of his poison’s effect 10 86.

Fifth Soul Skill: Serpent Python Heavenly Steel Shield

  • Condenses a dark green curtain of light into a large serpent-scale shield marked with flowing runes 47.
  • Completely blocks Pufferfish Douluo’s Thorn Bone Spike, breaking the projectiles against its surface 47.
  • Limits: Demon Bear Douluo’s attacks shake Dugu Bo backward, damage his internal organs, and later crack the shield 86 87.

Seventh Soul Skill: Martial Soul Avatar

  • Merges the Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor with his body, covering him in snake scales 47 86.
  • Allows him to condense poison mist into solid attacks and corrode Pufferfish Douluo’s spike armor 47.
  • He pushes his poison concentration to its limit in this state while fighting Demon Bear Douluo 87.

Eighth Soul Skill: Time Solidification

  • Releases dark green ripples that arrest movement and inject refined poison throughout a target’s meridians 47.
  • Immobilizes Pufferfish Douluo and seals his meridians after his depleted soul power prevents him from breaking free 47.
  • Slows Demon Bear Douluo; a full-power use freezes him for half a breath, creating an opening for the coordinated attack on Snake Lance Douluo 86 87.
  • Limits: Its demonstrated effect varies by opponent; Demon Bear is not held as completely as the exhausted Pufferfish 47 86 87.

Soul Bone Skill: Medusa’s Gaze

  • Projects dark green light from his skull soul bone, spreading petrification through the target’s body 47.
  • Turns the immobilized Pufferfish Douluo into a gray-white statue within a few breaths 47.
  • Dugu Bo checks the statue for signs of life before considering the threat eliminated 48.

Medicine, Herbs, and Detoxification

  • Identifies the purity of Qing Luo’s martial-soul toxin by examining her palms 9.
  • Writes detailed consumption methods and precautions for Thunder Pattern Grass, Purple Lightning Vine, and Thunder Pulp Fruit 12.
  • Recognizes how Yu Tianlin’s plant communication can maximize herb potency by identifying the correct harvesting time 11.
  • Treats Yu Luomian’s wounds successfully 59.
  • Uses poison to counter poison, drawing accumulated compound toxins from Emperor Xue Ye while Yu Tianlin repairs the damage 89.
  • Limits: He cannot identify every herb in his own garden. His personal backlash also requires treatment rather than a permanent removal of the poison his martial soul produces 9 10.

Flight and Transport

  • Flies using his Jade Phosphorous Serpent Emperor martial soul 59.
  • Coils the martial soul around Yu Tianlin to carry him to and from the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well 61.

  • Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well medicinal garden — A secluded valley surrounding separate crimson-hot and jade-blue cold springs. Herbs grow ten times faster where yin and yang intersect; Dugu Bo grants Yu Tianlin access after agreeing to join the clan 9 10 11.
