Background / History

Sakayanagi had previously been unable to attend school normally because of her health and instead received lessons at home. Entering Advanced Nurturing High School gave her an opportunity to experience ordinary school life, though her placement in the initially stable Class A left her bored. Hachiman Hikigaya's rise and declaration of war against her class renewed her interest in class competition. 21 51

She was already prominent from the beginning of the school year: she used chess to challenge upperclassmen through the school forum and accumulated a following within Class A. Her supporters later became known as the Sakayanagi Faction. 20 239

Sakayanagi first approached Hachiman through Masumi Kamuro, offering him 100,000 Private Points per month to act as her informant in Class D.
