Inside a grand hall of Tianbao Mountain.
Dozens of cultivators with graceful figures, dressed in colorful gowns, performed an exquisite dance in the center of the hall.
Several long tables were arranged in sequence along both sides of the hall. An extraordinary cultivator sat before each table.
"Young Master." A cultivator dressed as a gray-robed servant stepped forward slowly, arriving beside Baili Changfeng at his table.
"Speak," Baili Changfeng said softly.
"That Young Master Lei Zhan left Tianbao Mountain half an hour ago."
"Half an hour ago?" Baili Changfeng asked with curiosity. "He just left?"
"After purchasing the latest intelligence on the Demon Race in the North Dark Sea at Tianbao Mountain, Young Master Lei Zhan departed immediately," the gray-robed servant replied respectfully.
"He bought intelligence on the Demon Race? Could he be planning to hunt them?" Baili Changfeng felt a flicker of doubt, then waved his hand lightly.
The gray-robed servant nodded and retreated slowly.
"This fellow Daoist Lei Zhan..." A faint look of appreciation appeared in Baili Changfeng's eyes.
To dare to venture out and take risks while under the focused scrutiny of three major powers... It seems this fellow Daoist Lei Zhan is worth the risk of befriending, Baili Changfeng thought to himself.
As the son of the Marquis of the North Sea, though his own cultivation was not high, his access to information was far superior to that of other factions.
Yet, precisely because he knew so much, he understood just how powerful those three factions—which had spent years purchasing intelligence on Immortal Juhua—truly were. At the very least, they were not entities that he, one of the many sons of the Marquis of the North Sea, could afford to provoke.
"Young Master Changfeng?"
A young man in white sitting at the head of a table raised his wine cup and smiled. "Rare songs and dances; the Essence Liquid spent to invite these fairies from Tianbao Mountain to perform is no small amount. Many thanks to Young Master Changfeng for the banquet!"
"Many thanks to Young Master Changfeng for the banquet!" The remaining cultivators sitting at the tables raised their cups in unison.
"Mm." Baili Changfeng glanced at the people in the hall and stopped dwelling on the matter.
"With nothing to do, inviting friends over to drink and enjoy the dance is only natural. It is a pity, however... that I cannot introduce you all to a peerless genius."
"A peerless genius?" The young man in white asked curiously. "It is extremely rare to find someone worthy of such an evaluation from you, Young Master. May I ask who you are referring to?"
Baili Changfeng shook his head. "Forget it, let us not speak of such useless things. It is quite unfortunate; that fellow Daoist has gone out to adventure, and there is no telling when he will return..."
"Drink! Drink! Today, we shall not stop until we are drunk!"
Under the cover of night, a massive Dragon-Head Warship streaked across the sky like a bolt of light, draped in stars and moon.
This puppet treasure is far more comfortable to use.
At his level, he had long been capable of flight, but flying on his own was far slower than piloting a treasure... and piloting a treasure was not as effortless as riding a puppet warship.
Lei Zhan sat on the deck of the warship, holding a wine pot in one hand, gazing at the scenery under the bright moon with immense contentment.
He had intended to leave immediately after buying the intelligence, and the visit from Baili Changfeng was merely a minor interlude to him.
Regardless of what schemes or plans the man might have harbored, Lei Zhan had no intention of accepting today's banquet invitation.
However, Baili Changfeng's overture had served as a warning to Lei Zhan.
His journey had been too smooth; first, he was accepted as a disciple by the top-tier loose immortal, Immortal Juhua, and then he successively obtained the divine ability Star-Plucking Hand and the top-tier spear technique Red Snow. These successes had caused him to lose the cautious, self-reflective mindset he possessed when he first embarked on the path of cultivation.
The path of cultivation was inherently one of defying the heavens, filled with hardships, obstacles, and thorns. While advancing courageously, one must naturally maintain a sense of caution.
Although he had previously prepared for the potential enemies of Immortal Juhua, he had not expected the intelligence networks of these major powers to be so efficient.
The path of cultivation is indeed fraught with danger. Although I am familiar with the plot of the Desolate Era and possess a degree of foresight, the current era is just after the end of the age of Gods and Devils. The landscape of the Three Realms alone is vastly different from that of later generations.
Even after hundreds of millions of years, what I know are only major events; the minor details were rarely recorded in the Desolate Era.
For a moment, Lei Zhan's mind was filled with a thousand thoughts.
However, I have the Water Mansion, I have my master, and I have the Black Bead that came here with me... Lei Zhan steadied his heart and stopped thinking about it.
Those large clans and major powers purchasing intelligence on my master are still too far removed from me for now. Moreover, my sources of information are scarce; even if they make a move, I can only adapt as the situation changes.
I will first focus on improving myself here on the North Dark Sea. In the face of absolute strength, minor schemes and tricks will crumble on their own.
Lei Zhan looked into the far distance by the moonlight. With a cultivator's keen vision, everything was revealed in minute detail as the moonlight spilled across the sea.
Whoosh~~~
With a thought from Lei Zhan, a thick, massive book appeared in the air before him.
The North Dark Sea was vast, and the number of recorded Demon Race creatures was countless. Even though Lei Zhan had only purchased intelligence from the last decade or so, it was still enough to fill a book of this thickness.
When venturing out, intelligence naturally came first.
Without the support of information, blindly rushing forward was not called adventuring; it was called suicide.
Lei Zhan's goal was to slay the Demon Race and hone himself; naturally, he would not be so foolish as to pack himself up and deliver his head to the doorstep of a Great Demon's lair.
Ever since he met Baili Changfeng that night, Lei Zhan had spent half an hour flipping through the intelligence regarding himself and his master, Immortal Juhua. Afterward, he had purchased this comprehensive intelligence on the Demon Race of the North Dark Sea at Tianbao Mountain.
Lei Zhan flipped through the pages slowly.
The North Dark Sea was vast and boundless, and the number of islands capable of sustaining life was countless.
But on such a vast sea, one could not occupy an island without sufficient cultivation.
Any tribe, faction, or even Demon Race that could occupy an island needed at least one cultivator at the Purple Mansion level.
The Black Water Clan that Lei Zhan first encountered possessed two Purple Mansion cultivators, yet even so, they could only survive under the constant threat of the Demon Race.
The number of demons born within this North Dark Sea was even greater than that of the human race.
"The Myriad Phenomena Great Demon that has committed the most heinous crimes and is closest to North Sea Commandery City is a Water-Splitting White Shark at the peak of the Myriad Phenomena realm. After occupying an island, his influence grew increasingly powerful, and just ten years ago, he was joined by a Red-Maned Lion King at the early Myriad Phenomena stage..."
Lei Zhan flipped to one of the pages and examined it carefully. Although this Water-Splitting White Shark was a Myriad Phenomena Great Demon, the Demon Race was naturally long-lived. This Great Demon likely possessed a trace of the Ancient Water-Splitting Divine Shark's bloodline and had lived for nearly two thousand years, making his strength formidable.
"In his most recent attack, he slaughtered a human cultivator at the late Myriad Phenomena stage and actually devoured nearly one hundred thousand human lives in a single gulp?" Lei Zhan flipped to the latest intelligence, his fingers pausing as he turned the pages.
Peak Myriad Phenomena... and a demon at that. Although I can fight above my rank, crossing a major realm is already strenuous enough, not to mention that this old demon might step into the Primordial Spirit level at any moment... Lei Zhan shook his head and immediately flipped past that entry.
A Great Demon who had lived for nearly two thousand years—no one knew what kind of trump cards he possessed. The other Myriad Phenomena Great Demon on God Shark Island was manageable, but the Water-Splitting White Shark Great Demon was the most troublesome.
Moreover, those who could live for so long without dying all had their own life-saving trump cards. A battle against someone of similar strength was called tempering, but rushing toward an opponent with the strength of the Water-Splitting White Shark was simply courting death.
As for this Water-Splitting White Shark, I will wait until my strength is greater before going. Lei Zhan made his decision and proceeded to look at the intelligence of the next demon.
A long time passed.
"Black-Toothed White Elephant Great Demon? You're the one!" The page in Lei Zhan's hand lay open, and under the shroud of the cold moonlight, the image of a massive white elephant with thick, black tusks was perfectly clear.
These few chapters of transition have been a bit dull.
Next, the strength progression will lead back to the Water Mansion. The pacing in the early stages will not be too slow! I ask that you all do not let this book sit unread!
