Background
Tang Chen was the missing former Sect Master of the Clear Sky Sect and the hereditary Clear Sky Douluo. His son Tang Hao believed him dead until the Sky Screen selected Tang Chen as a third-batch Explorer, revealing that he was still alive. Tang Hao remembered him as an overwhelmingly powerful figure, while Tang Xiao recognized him as his grandfather 52 57.
Before his selection, Tang Chen was trapped in Slaughter City and mentally corrupted by the Blood-Red Nine-Headed Bat King. The entity’s influence drove him toward madness, violence, and uncontrollable killing intent. Tang Chen nevertheless retained the ambition to become a true god and destroy Slaughter City upon his return 54.
Appearance
After arriving in the new world, Tang Chen initially appeared as an elderly, white-haired man with a shriveled body. His later recovery returned him to a far younger and more vigorous form 68 76.
- Initially had dry white hair, deep facial wrinkles, and an aged physique 76.
- After recovery, his hair became thick and black, his wrinkles disappeared, and his body became heavily muscled 76.
- Wields a massive black Clear Sky Hammer marked with dark-red patterns 56.
- His Asura Demon Sword is blood-red with dark-gold patterns and emits a baleful aura 68.
Personality
Tang Chen is intensely proud of the Clear Sky Sect’s inherited arts and initially treats Hong’s request to study his methods as an attempt to steal them. He accepts cooperation only after it is framed as an exchange that can give him access to superior training and opponents 74.
His central drive is combat and self-improvement. Humiliation at the gap between himself and Thor strengthens his resolve rather than breaking it; he seeks the best cultivation environment and wants to spar with its strongest talents 74 75. When freed from the Bat King’s control, he regains his clarity and chooses to confront Thor seriously 63 67.
Abilities & Skills
Limit Douluo Physique
As a level-99 Limit Douluo, Tang Chen possesses exceptional physical strength and endurance even without relying on elaborate Soul Skills.
- Crushed more than a dozen Iron-Armored Wolves with a single hammer strike and created a crater dozens of meters wide 56.
- Fought through an Australian beast tide like a “meat grinder” using his body and hammer 56.
- Earth’s examination found his muscle density extraordinary and his bones comparable to an intermediate War God’s, despite detecting no Genetic Origin Energy 68.
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang Chen can manifest the Clear Sky Hammer directly from his body rather than retrieving it from storage 68.
- A massive black hammer with dark-red markings 56.
- Uses overwhelming blunt-force attacks against monsters and martial artists 56 63.
- Its size and destructive output can be amplified through Soul Ring detonation 68.
Soul Rings and Ring Detonation
Tang Chen possesses nine Soul Rings: two yellow, two purple, four black, and one red 68.
- Can detonate rings to release their stored energy into his body 68.
- Detonating three rings increased his energy index by nearly four times 68.
- The rings can re-condense after detonation, making them a reusable energy-storage method 68.
- Detonating all rings imposes catastrophic strain and leaves him unconscious after the attack 67.
Great Sumeru Hammer
A desperate, full-power hammer technique fueled by detonated Soul Rings.
- Condenses Tang Chen’s lifelong cultivation and the energy released from his rings into one strike 67.
- Combined with the Slaughter Domain and Asura Demon Sword, its output was described as entering the realm of gods 67.
- Its recoil severely injured Tang Chen and caused a deep coma regardless of the battle’s outcome 67.
Slaughter Domain
A domain that amplifies Tang Chen’s combat power and killing intent.
- Activated after he briefly regained clarity during his battle with Thor 63.
- Contributed to the god-level amplification of his Great Sumeru Hammer strike 67.
- Its violent nature is closely tied to his corruption by the Blood-Red Nine-Headed Bat King 54 67.
Asura Demon Sword
A blood-red divine sword whose presence intensifies Tang Chen’s bloodlust.
- Tang Chen’s temperament and eyes changed drastically when he gripped it 68.
- Thor observed that it seemed to erase Tang Chen’s consciousness and turn him into a puppet of the blade 68.
- Amplified Tang Chen’s final Great Sumeru Hammer strike alongside the Slaughter Domain 67.
Cosmic Origin Energy Comprehension
Tang Chen demonstrated unusually high comprehension after entering Earth’s cultivation system.
- Understood the basic Cosmic Origin Energy absorption method after reading the guide once 75.
- Received top-tier Gene Serum and a guiding manual at the Extreme Martial Arts Hall 75.
- His subsequent transformation restored his body to, or beyond, its former prime 76.

Relationships
- Tang Hao — Son. Tang Hao’s reaction to Tang Chen’s selection revealed that the supposedly missing former sect master was still alive 52.
- Tang San — Grandson. Tang San learned of Tang Chen through Tang Hao after the Sky Screen announced Tang Chen as an Explorer 52.
- Tang Xiao — Grandson and current Clear Sky Sect Master; Tang Xiao recognized Tang Chen’s return as a major event for the sect 53 57.
- Blood-Red Nine-Headed Bat King — Corrupting influence that suppressed Tang Chen’s consciousness and drove him into murderous madness; its control weakened after Tang Chen exhausted himself through ring detonation 54 67.
- Thor — Opponent and later contact. Thor defeated Tang Chen after their Australian battle, then brought him to the War God Palace; Tang Chen came to respect Thor’s strength 67 73.
- Hong — Negotiating partner and prospective instructor. Hong offered martial-path training and aid suppressing Tang Chen’s evil consciousness in exchange for studying Tang Chen’s power system 74.
- Qian Daoliu — Fellow Limit Douluo who sees Tang Chen’s survival and possible return as a threat to Martial Soul Hall’s plans 64.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Selection and Australian Rampage
Tang Chen is selected as a third-batch Explorer while trapped in Slaughter City. Teleported to the Australia Continent, he massacres monsters under the Bat King’s influence, using the Clear Sky Hammer and detonating Soul Rings to heighten his power 52 54 56.
Battle with Thor
Satellite surveillance draws Hong and Thor to Tang Chen’s location. Thor initially suppresses him with greater speed and technique; Tang Chen responds by detonating his rings, recovering a measure of clarity, and unleashing his Slaughter Domain and Asura Demon Sword 57 63.
Tang Chen expends all his Soul Rings in a final Great Sumeru Hammer attack. Though he fails to defeat Thor and falls unconscious, the exertion drains the Bat King’s immediate control over his mind 67.
Captivity and Exchange with the Extreme Martial Arts Hall
Thor transports the unconscious Tang Chen to the War God Palace, where he is restrained in an alloy capsule and examined by Hong. Hong identifies the Soul Rings as “Energy Rings” and recognizes the value of Tang Chen’s unfamiliar power system 68.
After waking, Tang Chen agrees to a trade: the Extreme Martial Arts Hall may study his methods, while he receives martial-path instruction, help suppressing the evil consciousness, and access to elite cultivation resources 73 74.
Return to Prime
Tang Chen’s initial 13,000 kg test result exposes the gap between his ordinary output and Earth’s martial hierarchy, fueling his determination to improve 75. After training and seclusion, he undergoes a dramatic physical restoration and returns as the God of Slaughter in his prime 76.
