Respected members of the board, ministers, senior brothers, and senior sisters

Hello, everyone!

I am Liu Yonglin, from Class 2 of Environmental Studies, Grade 2021, and also an officer at Xueheng Reading Center, one of our society's departments.

Time flew by in the blink of an eye. The seasons danced past, and winter arrived. Nine-tenths of the year has already gone by. Since enrolling on September 14, 2021, I have spent more than half a semester living and studying at Lanzhou Vocational Technical College Taolin Branch. I have gained a great deal during this time.

After joining Dream Source Literature Society, I gradually grew from someone who knew nothing at all.

This semester, thanks to this platform, I had the chance to roam through the halls of literature using my own abilities and enjoy the boundless joy and confidence literature brought me. Looking back on all the moments I shared with the society this semester, I took part in the following activities under the guidance of the senior students.

I. Meetings

(1) Attending Dream Source Literature Society's first general meeting at Lan Vocational College's Taolin Campus

Because I loved literature, I had already decided to join Dream Source Literature Society before the school year began. I thought literature was a pure and clean form of artistic expression, and I had come to love it in middle school after my Chinese teacher inspired me. At last, after the school year began, I got my wish and joined Dream Source Literature Society. On October 14, 2021, I attended the society's first general meeting at Lan Vocational College's Taolin Campus. I had always thought Dream Source Literature Society was a group that combined both seriousness and enjoyment: literature itself should be treated seriously, while the ways in which we engaged with it should be enjoyable. After listening to the president and the ministers introduce the society, I became even more certain of that. China is the only country in the world whose cultural heritage has never been interrupted, and Chinese culture has been passed down through the ages and wields great influence.

(2) Attending the first general meeting of Dream Source Literature Society's Xueheng Reading Center

This was my first department meeting since joining our society. It was also the first time since joining that I met the senior students and other members in my department. At this meeting, I gained a much clearer understanding of my duties and responsibilities as an officer at Xueheng Reading Center. Though our work was just to write some essays and news articles, and help other students borrow books, I still believed that through my own efforts, I was helping spread Chinese culture. Together, we would dig deep into our cultural heritage.

II. Activities

(1) Attending Dream Source Literature Society's first general meeting and social gathering at Yan'erwan Campus

This was the first activity I attended after joining Dream Source Literature Society. I understood very well that we had been invited by the person in charge of the society at Yan'erwan Campus. I also knew that when we were out, we had to be on our best behavior. After all, our image represented not only Dream Source Literature Society at our campus, but the whole of Taolin Campus. This opportunity let me meet more friends with similar aspirations, and gave me a better understanding of our society from a different perspective. Through the activity, I could also learn from their experience and share ours with them. It was a process in which we helped one another succeed and grow.

(2) Taking part in the online essay contest themed "Remember the Pain of the Pandemic, Praise the Deeds of Heroes"

Since 2020, the words "COVID-19 pandemic" seemed to have been cursed, branding themselves deep in every Chinese person's heart. Then, from mid-October 2021, the pandemic suddenly ran rampant in Lanzhou. It came so unexpectedly that everyone in the city was caught off guard. Yet in such circumstances, Lanzhou's medical workers were willing to charge into danger and, with fearless courage, hold up the first line of defense for the city. They stood firm and held their ground on the front lines. With all of us working together, we finally overcame the outbreak in Lanzhou. In such a time and under such circumstances, this was an era in which every person was a hero. It was everyone's efforts that allowed the outbreak in Lanzhou to recede so quickly and helped all of Gansu bring cases down to zero. Keep it up, wonderful people of Gansu!

(3) Taking part in the online "Three-Line Love Letter" writing contest

Everyone needs love. From the moment we first awaken to romance, we all look forward to finding a love of our own. This activity gave us an outlet for our feelings and a chance to express them—to write a three-line poem for the person in our hearts.

(4) Taking part in the "2021 Rural Revitalization Agricultural Products Inspirational Cup Writing Contest"

Rural revitalization has been a major government initiative in recent years. Ever since the second-generation leadership, Deng Xiaoping, the country's principal leader, proposed achieving the Four Modernizations, agricultural modernization has been one of them. Today's rural revitalization strategy is simply an extension and expansion of agricultural modernization, ensuring that all farmers can benefit from the government's support! As students, we had a chance to promote the rural revitalization strategy and local agriculture. That was our own small contribution to rural revitalization.

(5) Taking part in the essay contest themed "Rest Assured, Party—We Are Ready to Make Our Country Strong"

At this time, as the Third Plenary Session of the Sixteenth Central Committee drew to a close, a wave of enthusiasm for studying the spirit of the Sixteenth Central Committee's Third Plenary Session swept across society. As a student and a Youth League Member, shouldering the responsibilities of our era was naturally a duty I could not shirk. I was willing to start with myself, take concrete action to carry on the red legacy, be a good Youth League Member, and prepare to join the Party!

(6) Taking part in a social gathering with Taolin Campus's Clear Sound Radio Station

As fellow societies devoted to literature, we had many connections with Clear Sound Radio Station. For us, every activity we attended broadened our experience and knowledge. From organizing the event to planning it and then carrying it out, every step was a valuable learning opportunity. Naturally, I learned a great deal along the way.

III. Book Club

Because of the pandemic in Lanzhou, this was our first book club meeting since joining the society this semester. Our discussion focused on I Belonged to No Man's Land, the coming-of-age story of Liu Shisan, a boy from Yunbian Town. This book was written for the mountain and sea in everyone's heart. On this side of the mountain was Liu Shisan's childhood; on the other side lay his grandmother's sea. It was a deeply moving novel. From the author's perspective, I felt he wanted to tell us that everyone needs a beam of light in life. That light is the road that guides you forward, and the reason and principles you hold on to. Compared with romance novels, this author's portrayal of family bonds made it harder to pull away. It was those understated descriptions that tugged at the heartstrings even more. After this reading, we felt that what we should cherish more than anything was family!

IV. Looking Ahead

Under the guidance of our senior brothers and sisters, Dream Source Literature Society is striding forward and showing its unique charm in this way. Its many activities have let me experience its energy and passion firsthand. I believe Dream Source Literature Society should focus more on developing our literary skills, so everyone can write beautifully and spread the culture of our Chinese land through the distinctive medium of Chinese characters! At the same time, we should strengthen oversight of every department and strive for perfection, so that Dream Source Literature Society can reach even greater heights! As a member of Dream Source Literature Society, I have both the responsibility and the duty to help make our society, our own little world, even better! I believe Dream Source will shine even brighter in the future!
