Background

Sun Wukong originates from roughly thirty years in the future, where he fought threats including Baby and the Evil Dragon. After defeating the Evil Dragon with a Spirit Bomb, he exhausted his energy and his soul followed Shenron into the past. He awakens on Snake Way in Age 762, reborn in an adult body that is vastly weaker than his former self and lacks its tail. 1 18 19

His present-era body had died alongside his brother Raditz after Piccolo pierced his heart with the Special Beam Cannon. Wukong retains memories from his previous life, including future events, people, techniques, and dangers that have not yet occurred in this timeline. 3 18

Because of his memories of the Evil Dragon, Wukong initially resolves to minimize Dragon Ball use and regain Super Saiyan 4 as soon as possible. The Old Supreme Kai later warns him that Beerus, a God of Destruction far stronger than the Evil Dragon, may appear within ten to twenty years; this gives Wukong an even greater reason to train and protect his family and friends. 1 19 20

Appearance

Wukong is reborn in an adult body rather than the child body he had before his death. He initially has no Saiyan tail, which prevents him from pursuing Super Saiyan 4 despite retaining knowledge of the transformation. 1 18

He is intensely motivated by self-improvement and enjoys fighting powerful opponents. Rather than killing Frieza immediately, he considers keeping him alive as a training partner—provided Frieza does not threaten Earth. 20 23 47

Despite his enthusiasm for battle, Wukong is protective and compassionate. He keeps Gohan out of the Saiyan conflict so his son can pursue academics, evacuates the Namekians before Frieza arrives, and refuses to abandon them when Frieza threatens their world. 4 35 37
