After casting the illusion, Lynn left with the group of mutant children.
He planned to explore other parts of the base for information and, while he was at it, kill every last one of those bastards inside.
Before long, Wolverine arrived at the laboratory with his companions.
The moment he stepped inside, he froze.
It wasn't because of the mutant bodies in the laboratory.
It was because the scene inside was utterly horrifying.
The researchers in white coats had bloodshot eyes and twisted expressions as they stabbed their colleagues with scalpels.
At the same time, they kept shouting, "Damn mutants! I'll kill you! I'll rape you and your whole family!!"
The researcher had not only stabbed his colleague to death but was also repeatedly stabbing and slashing his own face, chest, and lower body.
Scarlet blood ran from all over his body, and the air was thick with the pungent, ironlike smell of blood.
The researchers kept cursing mutants, yet their actions were horrifying beyond belief.
Just as Logan, Matthews, and Hans were about to leave the laboratory,
several armed men in full-body Exoskeleton Armor came over.
They had several pistols holstered at their waists, and their hands and mechanical arms were equipped with guns and cannons.
In front of them stood a towering, five- or six-meter-tall First-Generation Sentinel Robot, clad in armor and resembling Iron Man.
"Mutants detected!"
The moment the Sentinel Robot spotted Logan and the others, its eyes turned crimson.
"Target locked!"
In almost the same instant, the Sentinel Robot raised both arms, aiming its cannons at Logan and Silver Fox.
Boom!!
The shells tore through the air and blasted straight toward them.
"Tch... What a pain."
Logan spat out his cigar, a bloodthirsty glint flashing in his eyes.
He raised both hands, and hard Adamantium claws slid out.
He tore the shells apart and charged at the Sentinel Robot.
Just as Logan was about to reach it,
two armed men in Exoskeleton Armor suddenly rushed forward.
Their metal arms, gleaming coldly, carried a terrifying force of eight tons and slammed into Logan's abdomen.
The tremendous force erupted all at once, sending Logan flying before he could dodge.
Seeing this, Matthews swiftly drew his gun with his right hand, moving so fast he was almost a blur.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Within 0.2 seconds, he had drawn his gun and fired every round.
But the bullets had no effect at all on the Exoskeleton Armor.
Lying on the ground and spitting blood, Logan saw what had happened, and his expression darkened.
"Fuck! Where did these guys come from?"
How had he been knocked flying in a single blow?
Seeing Matthews and Logan get the upper hand turned against them,
Hans, standing at the back, charged forward without hesitation.
His figure flashed, leaving a string of afterimages.
He rushed at the armed men in Exoskeleton Armor at the speed of sound.
He didn't choose to attack the Sentinel Robot.
Compared with the Sentinel Robot, those armed men were the more important targets.
Hans raised his pistol, aimed at the two men's heads, and pulled the trigger, emptying the magazine.
But in the next instant, his face filled with astonishment.
Every bullet he fired had been stopped by the automatic defense systems built into their Exoskeleton Armor.
When the two armed men realized they were unharmed, they exchanged surprised smiles.
"I didn't expect Stark Industries' gear to work this well."
"Hurry and capture these three mutants, then find Subject 52. The boss is determined to get him this time!"
Hans stared at the two men encased in Exoskeleton Armor, his pupils suddenly contracting.
Wasn't this equipment far too advanced for a research base to have?
Why hadn't there been armed men with gear like this at the research base he and Logan had raided before?
While he stood there, stunned, the Sentinel Robot reached out with a huge claw to grab Hans.
Hans flashed to the side, trying to dodge.
But the Sentinel Robot had already calculated his move and caught him with its other metal hand.
"Shit!"
Seeing this, Logan hurried forward.
The Adamantium claws thrust from his hands tore through the air, about to cut off one of the Sentinel Robot's hands.
But the armed men in Exoskeleton Armor raised their weapons, and bullets kept tearing through the air and striking his head.
They fired an endless stream of bullets at Wolverine's big head and little head.
The bullets were stopped by his hard Adamantium bones, and Wolverine's healing factor could repair most of the damage.
But the impact of the shots was still miserable.
His brain felt as if he had a concussion, while his little head throbbed as though bees were stinging it over and over.
Before Matthews could charge forward, another armed man pressed his gun to his head.
Before Logan could react, the Sentinel Robot forced him down with its huge metal arm, making him struggle to kneel on the ground.
He stared at the armed men in their advanced gear, his expression growing even grimmer.
He wasn't the only one. Despair welled up in all three of them.
Were they really going to die here today?
"Heh heh... Captain Locke, we caught a few damn mutants!"
The armed man in Exoskeleton Armor followed behind the Sentinel Robot, holding Logan and Hans as he spoke with a grin.
Captain Locke looked pleased to see Logan and the other two mutants captured.
"Wolverine... You have an extremely powerful healing factor, and you've been injected with Adamantium... And you two..."
Captain Locke turned to look at Hans and Matthews.
One could move at the speed of sound, while the other could shoot very quickly.
Captain Locke had expected to capture these three.
"Reporting, Captain. Aside from the mutants, there are no living people left in Base 10..."
At his subordinate's words, the smile on Captain Locke's face vanished.
He abruptly looked up toward the small mountain where the base was located.
"Damn Subject 52! Mobilize every weapon we have and aim them at that mountain!"
Logan, still captured, looked past the group.
The moment he saw the heavy weapons, his eyes widened, his face filled with shock.
Matthews and Hans beside him looked just as horrified.
"CIWS, the Patriot Missile System, Armed Fighter Jets, two tanks, plus the Sentinel Robot and that Exoskeleton Armor..."
The more Logan saw, the more alarmed he became.
With firepower this terrifying, even a Level Four mutant could be taken down.
Why had this armed unit come here?
Was it because of the Subject 52 they kept talking about?
Who exactly was Subject 52?
What abilities did he have? What did he look like?
Could Subject 52 withstand a barrage from these terrifying weapons?
"Is the Combat Recorder on and filming?"
Captain Locke turned to the subordinate behind him and asked.
Base 10 had already been destroyed, and they were about to begin capturing Subject 52.
If something went wrong and the target died during the capture, they could use the recording to avoid responsibility.
"Ready!"
Captain Locke nodded. "Good."
He turned toward the small mountain, narrowed his eyes, and gave a cruel smile.
"When Subject 52 comes out, I'll show him the power of humanity!"
