Background / History

Odin punishes Thor for his arrogance by casting him to Midgard and placing an enchantment on Mjolnir. The hammer can only be lifted again once Thor develops compassion, humility, and a protector's heart. Thor arrives in the Heavenly Kingdom through the Bifrost, separated from Mjolnir and expecting mortals to respect his divine rank. 110

Jean Grey instead pins him to his knees with telekinesis. Thor cannot lift Mjolnir when it lands nearby, and Jean, Wolverine, and Quicksilver openly mock his helplessness. Magneto subsequently takes the hammer away under Lynn's authority, further shattering Thor's pride. 110 111 112

Taken to Blue Dream Tower, Thor witnesses Lynn wield Mjolnir effortlessly, use its lightning to fill Blue Dream City's electrical reserve for half a month, and crush then reconstruct the hammer.
