A year had passed since the Chunin Ninja Exams ended.
Many things had happened during that year.
Several members of Konoha's new generation had passed the Chunin Ninja Exams and officially become Chunins.
During the exams, Konoha had captured Ukokui and Chigui, who had tried to take part and kill members of Konoha's new generation.
Though the Third Hokage had decided to let the matter go for the sake of the greater good, Konoha Village had begun changing the deployment of its ninja in certain areas!
Because of the Land of Fire's excellent location, several neighboring countries were also eyeing Konoha hungrily.
On the surface, the village remained peaceful. But outside it, along the borders between the Land of Fire and its neighbors, minor clashes were frequent.

Hiruzen Sarutobi took a long drag from his pipe.
"Phew..."
Through the smoke-filled window, he gazed out at the prosperous village of Konoha.
There was a trace of worry on Sarutobi's face. Though he was still in the prime of his life, maintaining this outward appearance of peace had already added a few white hairs to his head.
As he looked out the window, his gaze was complicated.
Were they still not satisfied with this peace...? If war broke out again... I would never let the flames of war spread to the village again!
At the thought, a resolute look flashed in his eyes.
Meanwhile, life in the village went on as usual. The villagers lived in peace and contentment. Though disputes sometimes arose, they would forgive one another after a few days. Overall, the village was thriving.
The great ninja clans had also enjoyed a happy year.
Their families had welcomed new members!
