Over the past half month, Clark had begun to feel that the world he lived in was falling apart.

Why had Dilos killed someone?

Clark had pondered that question for a long time. After arriving at X-Mansion, he found an opportunity to ask Dilos about it himself.

The answer had been far beyond Clark's expectations—or rather, impossible for him to accept.

Dilos had killed the man because, after gaining Kryptonian abilities, he had nearly killed Lex. Even after being subdued, he had continued worshipping the prophecy set down by Krypton like some fanatical madman, cursing Dilos and claiming he would soon die.

On top of that, Dilos had found the man deeply repulsive. He worried that once the man recovered, he would come after his friends and family, so he killed him.

Although Clark knew that the "Kryptonian Machine" had been secretly manipulating matters behind the scenes, he still instinctively argued with Dilos. He felt that killing someone over something like that was simply too cold-blooded.

Dilos flew into a rage on the spot.

"What did you think I should do? Let him go like some pathetic do-gooder? You should know that disgusting lunatics like fanatics can't be reasoned with. Unless I turned him into a vegetable or killed him, he would keep pestering people like a rabid dog."

At the time, Dilos had coldly lashed out at Clark a few times before continuing, "Of course, I didn't have to kill him. But why should I let him go? Because of the law?"

Before Clark could answer, Dilos sneered again. "Don't be ridiculous, Clark. How is a law riddled with flaws supposed to protect our rights? What if he gets out of prison someday and starts harming us in secret again? Are we supposed to guard against him every day?
