Dilos sprang to his feet and bounded toward the nearest window.
He grabbed the edge with one hand, his upper body hanging outside. Turning his head, he could just make out a shadow sliding down a pipe on the building's outer wall.
Dilos narrowed his eyes. According to the feedback from his psychic senses, it was the person who had just been watching him.
"Hmph..." With a cold snort, the energy inside Dilos surged through his body. His muscles tensed, and then he thrust himself backward with all his strength!
With a dull thud, Dilos launched himself into the air, leaping toward the building eight meters away. After traveling five meters, his momentum began to wane. He immediately swung his arms, shoulders, waist, and legs forward, flipping through the air and forcibly closing the distance to the opposite building by more than two meters.
Dilos simply reached out to cover the remaining distance of less than a meter, bringing the gap between them down to zero.
His left hand clamped onto a protruding edge on the building's exterior, and he hung there securely.
The shadow was getting farther away, so Dilos narrowed his eyes and quickened his movements. He swung his body, spotted another protrusion on the wall diagonally below and ahead, then thrust his arms, shoulders, waist, and legs forward all at once as he released his grip.
The next second, Dilos used the momentum of his body to drop toward the protrusion diagonally below. His muscles tensed as he neared it, and he suddenly braced one foot against the wall to his right, slowing his fall.
Then he easily caught the protrusion with both hands and hung there again. After repeating the maneuver two or three times, he landed on the ground without difficulty.
The streets were deserted this late at night. The shadow had landed more than ten seconds earlier and was now over a hundred meters away.
Most people would have given up the chase by now. Without a car nearby, there was no way to catch someone from that far away! And the surrounding streets were so complicated that the moment the fugitive ducked into a narrow alley where cars couldn't go, the pursuer would be left clueless.
But was Dilos an ordinary person? Clearly not. And he had a psychic ability that let him lock onto the man like a cheat.
The energy and blood coursing through Dilos's limbs and meridians surged wildly. Power coiled around his strong frame, filling him with explosive strength.
He pushed off hard and raced toward the shadow, kicking up a gust of wind.
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da...
Like the gears of a machine spinning madly, Dilos's arms and legs blurred as he sprinted at full strength. His pounding footfalls rattled like machine-gun fire as he chased after the shadow at three times an ordinary person's speed!
The shadow, fleeing into the distance, heard the "da-da-da-da-da-da..." that sounded like a machine gun and instinctively glanced behind him.
"Oh, damn it!"
The shadow couldn't help cursing. Dilos was closing the gap at a visible rate. Judging by his quick estimate, they were now no more than sixty or seventy meters apart—and the distance was shrinking!
"Is this guy a Mutant or what?!"
The shadow cursed inwardly, then abruptly turned and darted into a nearby alley. There were a dozen or twenty alleys in this area, all intersecting. Once someone got in and zigzagged through them, the dim lighting at night would make even a Mutant struggle to keep up.
Unfortunately, the shadow was incredibly unlucky. Dilos's ability might not be very powerful, but within this range it worked well as a human-shaped, high-precision search radar.
Whenever the shadow ducked into an alley in an unexpected direction, Dilos followed close behind, guided by the feedback from his psychic senses. The shadow led him this way and that through the alleyways, turning their chase into a battle of attrition...
"Tsk, how the hell is this bastard keeping up with me?"
Seeing Dilos still following at an unhurried pace, the shadow cursed as he ran. "And it's been twenty minutes! Why can't I shake this guy?"
For twenty minutes, whenever the shadow used the cover of darkness to dart into an almost unlit alley and took a random turn at one of its many forks, Dilos seemed to have a dog's nose. No matter where the shadow went, Dilos followed.
Every single time. He hadn't missed once!
The shadow was about ready to lose his mind.
Gradually, even the slow-witted shadow noticed something was wrong. Given Dilos's speed, if he could find him so accurately every time, he should have caught up within a minute or two. They shouldn't have been locked in this battle of attrition.
"He's playing with me!"
Realizing what was going on, the shadow gritted his teeth at Dilos. Even as Dilos trailed him from more than twenty meters away, he sensed the shadow's anger through his psychic ability. To be honest, Dilos didn't care how the shadow felt about being toyed with. But he knew it was time to end the game.
He casually pulled the tactical self-defense pen from his pocket, took aim at the man's knee, and flung it hard! The pen shot after the shadow with a sharp whoosh and struck him right in the knee.
Hearing the whoosh, the shadow knew something was wrong and instinctively tried to dodge to one side. But it was too late.
Before he could get out of the way, a sharp pain shot through the back of his knee. His leg buckled, and he lost his balance. With a thud, the shadow crashed to the ground, tumbling several times from the momentum of his run and getting covered in dust. He looked thoroughly disheveled.
Dilos didn't let his guard down. He rushed forward and swept a hand over the shadow's limbs, sending An Jin into them so the man couldn't control his arms or legs. Then he grabbed the man by the collar and hurled him against the wall!
With a dull thud, the shadow grunted. His limbs powerless, he slid slowly down the wall.
Before he could recover, he felt a powerful pressure around his neck, leaving him gasping for air.
The shadow struggled to open his eyes and look ahead. Dilos had him by the throat with one hand, a cold smile on his face. "Who are you?! Who sent you to spy on me?!"
