When the doctor arrived, Dilos began his move. He wrapped bandages around his body as usual to create a disguise. Once the man stood before him, Dilos activated his ability.
As the ability unfolded, Dilos could clearly sense the mental fluctuations radiating from the doctor. Relying on instinct, he slowly guided the mass of mental energy in his mind into the doctor's brain.
Of course, given Dilos's current power level, controlling the man outright was impossible. He needed to guide him slowly, interfering with his mind bit by bit to induce hypnosis. During this process, he had to stall for as much time as possible.
"Doctor, how old are you this year?"
"Doctor, are you married?"
"Doctor, is the working principle of this instrument..."
Dilos chattered on like a talkative fool, asking a barrage of irrelevant questions. The doctor, pressured by his employer Lex, didn't say much in return. Consequently, Dilos managed to stall for quite some time while using his ability to continuously interfere with the doctor's consciousness, hypnotizing him step by step.
Even so, he felt immense pressure. The slow process of interference and hypnosis was exhausting. He persisted, though his efforts were nearly interrupted several times, leaving Dilos drenched in a cold sweat. Fortunately, he succeeded in the end.
"After your examination, you found that Dilos has not fully recovered. You have prescribed a few courses of medicine for him. It is expected that Dilos will only regain basic mobility in about two months. Come back for a follow-up visit then."
Dilos stared into the doctor's eyes, sweating profusely as he combined his words with his ability to cement the hypnosis. Once it was done, he felt completely drained.
Though exhausted, it was worth it. Dilos felt a particular sense of accomplishment, especially seeing the shock on the faces of Chloe and Gabe when the doctor left without discovering a thing.
"Did he really not say anything?"
Chloe asked first, her eyes wide, implying that the doctor hadn't discovered anything at all.
Dilos hesitated, unsure of how to answer.
Should I keep it from them? The thought flashed through his mind, but he decided against it. He felt that hiding the truth wasn't right. After all, such situations would surely arise again, and constant concealment would eventually lead to trouble. After a moment of reflection, he decided to reveal his ability and what he had just done.
"Isn't that a bit... unsettling?" Gabe looked troubled, and even Chloe's expression was unnatural.
Dilos had been prepared for their reaction. He shrugged and said honestly, "I had no choice. If my current situation were exposed, it would be too terrifying. What if I were captured by people with ulterior motives and sliced up?"
Seeing their conflicted expressions, Dilos understood their perspective; he would likely feel the same way. He said softly, "Don't worry, I won't use this ability on you. And I promise that unless it's a critical moment, I won't use it on others casually."
"I'm sorry, we're family. I shouldn't have thought that way," Chloe said, her face filled with guilt and embarrassment. "It's just that I recently saw a news report about a psychic super-powered criminal. I should have known you're different from them."
Gabe felt the same, and both of them carried a sense of guilt.
"I know, don't worry about it. Besides, we're family. Even though we each have our secrets, our care for one another is the same," Dilos nodded, offering comfort. He had seen that news report too; it was easy for people to let their imaginations run wild during such critical times. Plus, with a large number of high-ranking figures constantly demonizing mutants in the media, everyone was influenced to some degree.
But once things were out in the open, it was fine. After all, they were family.
Some people, upon gaining superpowers, become self-centered and arrogant, even disregarding their family's feelings or turning against them. This situation often occurs in those with exceptionally powerful abilities. Yet, others, upon gaining powers, do not grow distant from their families but instead become even closer.
So, when someone later asked Dilos how he viewed this situation, he answered:
"I trust my family deeply, and they trust me just the same. Although we sometimes have conflicts, this trust allows us to be tolerant, protective, and respectful of each other, always keeping one another's best interests at heart. Unless I encounter something truly serious, I would never use my ability to probe my own family. Why would I use it otherwise? I cannot accept the idea of abusing my power and hurting the people I care about."
Afterward, the three returned to their original dynamic, but the bond between them had deepened.
Then came the grueling time for Dilos to type out his work.
Dilos didn't know what he had been thinking, but relying on his incredible memory, he had managed to transcribe the first three books of Harry Potter over the span of half a month. Even with his physical fitness far exceeding that of an average athlete after practicing martial arts, his hands ached terribly.
However, this level of fatigue was worth it. Dilos had immense confidence in the Harry Potter series; he believed that when he published these works, he would see a harvest that satisfied him. He wasn't in a rush to publish them, though, because he had another plan—or rather, an experiment—to conduct. He had wanted to do this ever since he obtained Clark's blood, but he had lacked the time.
Honestly, he was very envious of Superman's abilities, such as X-ray vision, heat vision, and freeze breath. With his current power, he couldn't gain super strength, speed, or durability from Clark's blood alone. But X-ray vision and heat vision were a different story.
Kryptonian cells could absorb stellar energy, including various forms of radiation. This radiation not only multiplied his cell strength but also granted him superpowers like heat vision.
In his past life, Dilos had suspected that Superman's heat vision and X-ray vision were the result of him releasing electromagnetic waves or other radiation from his eyes.
Furthermore, based on Superman's growth, it was highly likely that once his cells were amplified to a certain stage, he gained the skill to control the energy within his body, allowing him to distinguish which radiation could be used for X-ray vision and which for heat vision.
If this hypothesis was correct, he could use precision instruments to inject Superman's blood and, through related devices, isolate specific radiation for targeted application.
There were many small, suitable devices for this, and in Dilos's mind, the most convenient and ideal one was a pair of glasses. The only problem was how to put his hypothesis into practice and then refine the operation into the glasses.
