Before he even reached the battlefield, Gray began Flashing. As Saint Marcus's attack collided with Fujitora's, Gray suddenly appeared behind Saint Marcus.
"What?" Gray's sudden appearance caught Saint Marcus off guard, but it was already too late to defend himself.
He was already being held in check by Fujitora. Given his reflexes, the best he could manage was to coat himself in Haki at the moment Gray attacked.

While fighting Fujitora in the sky, he had glanced over the battlefield a few times and seen how badly things were going.
Now, flying high above it all, he finally realized that the situation was no longer merely 'unfavorable'!
It was a complete and utter defeat!
Akainu had only just been fished out by his men,
