Personality

Flender is an opportunistic merchant who raises prices when he recognizes a buyer’s desperation. His greed extends to attempted extortion: after Yin Chuan’s group wrecks his shop, he demands an enormous payment and considers forcing Yin Chuan to work at Shrek if he cannot pay. When threatened with overwhelming force, he readily bargains and begs for mercy 25 26 27.

His manner changes sharply according to circumstances. At Shrek’s entrance, he switches from hostility to flattery almost immediately after learning that Yin Chuan is a prospective student’s guardian. Flender first encounters Tang San as a customer seeking Hair Crystal. Recognizing how badly Tang San wants it, he raises the price from 100 to 200, then 500 Gold Soul Coins. Xiao Wu suggests waiting for Yin Chuan, who arrives and orders the pair to smash the shop 25 26.

Flender demands 1,000,000 Gold Soul Coins in compensation, intending to recruit Yin Chuan through debt if payment proves impossible. Confident that his Level 78 cultivation gives him an advantage over a Level 67 Soul Emperor, he initially dismisses Yin Chuan’s twelve Level 62 summons as possible illusions based on Yu Xiaogang’s theories 26.

His confidence collapses when the Howling Celestial Dog bites his leg and Yin Chuan orders the spearmen to prepare a volley. Flender surrenders, is searched and robbed, and is eventually released. Yin Chuan’s group then follows him to Shrek Academy 27.

Recruiting Yin Chuan

At Shrek’s entrance, Flender calls for reinforcements, believing Yin Chuan has come to finish him off. Once Yin Chuan explains that he is enrolling his nephew, Flender welcomes him as a guardian and introduces himself as “Little Flender.” Tang San’s cultivation—Level 35 at twelve—makes the earlier scam especially regrettable to him 28.

To recruit Yin Chuan as a teacher, Flender offers a share of Shrek’s revenue. He also accepts a duel alongside Zhao Wuji, seeing an opportunity both to secure a powerful teacher and avenge his shop defeat 29.

Golden Iron Triangle’s Defeat

Flender helps Yu Xiaogang present his injuries to Liu Erlong in a way that fuels her anger. Reunited, the Golden Iron Triangle confronts Yin Chuan and Tang San, trusting its fusion skill to overcome them 48 49 50.

The fusion is destroyed, leaving Flender gravely injured. After Yin Chuan destroys Yu Xiaogang’s and Liu Erlong’s cultivation, Flender begs for mercy and offers to surrender Shrek.
