Background / History

Xiao Wu first confronts Deng Tianxin and Di Qiu'er in the Star Dou Great Forest after finding them eating roasted Soft Bone Rabbits. Though frightened by Di Qiu'er, she refuses to retreat and demands justice for her kin, identifying herself as their friend. She reveals that Da Ming and Er Ming protect her in the forest 72 73.

Her attempt to call in Er Ming fails when the Titan Giant Ape recognizes Di Qiu'er as the Imperial Auspicious Beast and refuses to fight her. Xiao Wu then retaliates with a prank: she kisses Deng Tianxin in front of Di Qiu'er specifically to provoke the latter, before fleeing on Er Ming 74 75.

Despite their hostile beginning, Xiao Wu later encounters Deng and Di Qiu'er again and gradually becomes part of their circle. She apologizes to Deng for her earlier behavior after receiving a hand-carved comb from him, then contributes intelligence on a Hundred-Thousand-Year Death Spider Emperor in Black Swamp. Her account includes its territory, web-covered hunting grounds, and vulnerability while sleeping after feeding 126 127 128.

After three years apart, Xiao Wu reunites with Deng as a twelve-year-old and openly embraces him before awkwardly denying that she intended to do so. She joins Deng and Di Qiu'er on a journey across the continent, visits Iron Ox Village, comforts Hu Liena after the girl's parents are killed, and befriends Ah Yin in the Blue Silver Forest 143 149 150 160.

While traveling toward the Star Luo Empire, Xiao Wu witnesses the aftermath of soldiers attacking a village. The experience strips away her earlier ease and contributes to her growing maturity as the group helps the survivors 161.

Appearance

In her early human form, Xiao Wu is a small girl with tearful eyes and a distinctive scorpion braid. Three years later, she has silky black hair braided past her calves and wears a pink outfit 72 143.

Xiao Wu is fiercely protective of Soft Bone Rabbits and stubbornly courageous. Even while visibly terrified of Di Qiu'er, she stands her ground to condemn the pair for eating her kin 72. She places deep trust in Da Ming and Er Ming, proudly invoking them as her protectors 73.

She is also playful, impulsive, and skilled at stirring trouble. Her kiss of Deng Tianxin is a calculated prank intended to enrage Di Qiu'er, and she repeatedly needles Di Qiu'er by calling her a “golden-furred big cat” 75 143 144.

As she spends more time among humans, Xiao Wu displays empathy and growing responsibility. She plays easily with village children, cares for the grieving Hu Liena, and forms a warm bond with Ah Yin 147 149 150 160. Her affection for Deng becomes increasingly apparent, though she habitually hides it behind awkward excuses 143 151.
