Yagami left the battle against Uchiha Madara to pursue Tobi, who trapped Minato Namikaze and Uzumaki Kushina in Heavenly Pillar. After Yagami rescued them, Minato broke through to Wind Release Chakra Refinement, and Yagami prepared to pursue Tobi across Konoha.

• Kuroari told Yagami that Tobi had ambushed the Third Hokage and assassinated Utatane Koharu, so Yagami left the fight against Uchiha Madara to hunt Tobi.
• Tobi trapped Minato Namikaze and Uzumaki Kushina in Heavenly Pillar and attacked them with Island of Onushi.
• Yagami used Wood Release to knock Heavenly Pillar away, drained its Chakra with a Wood Dragon, and rescued Minato and Kushina.
