As the last shovelful of dirt fell, the bodies of the fallen White Tiger Guards were buried, leaving only stone markers standing tall.
The camp fell silent, everyone's eyes fixed on the gravestones.
The current Crown Prince, the future Emperor, the most powerful figure in the empire, had personally carved memorial tablets for his fallen brothers.
The surviving White Tiger Guards even felt somewhat envious of their dead comrades.
For White Tiger Guards of commoner birth, Dai Mobai's actions were an honor beyond measure.
"Thank you, Your Highness!"
Chen Hu knelt before Dai Mobai once again, as did the White Tiger Guards behind him.
Their gazes toward Dai Mobai burned with the fervor of men willing to die for one who understood them.
"Bury the Howling Moon Wolf corpses here as well, so they don't attract more soul beasts."
Dai Mobai turned to the White Tiger Guards kneeling all around him and gave the order.
"By your command!"
Chen Hu and the White Tiger Guards answered in unison.
Hearing their response change from "yes" to "by your command," Dai Mobai raised an eyebrow slightly.
He knew that what he had just done had completely won over Chen Hu and the White Tiger Guards under his command.
To put it bluntly, if he wanted to rebel right now, all he had to do was raise his arm. Even if they were outnumbered, they would charge forward without fear of death.
Not one to waste anything, Dai Mobai made a round of the area and absorbed all the blood energy within the Howling Moon Wolves.
With the most troublesome bloody stench dealt with, the rest became much simpler.
The White Tiger Guards split into two groups. One was responsible for digging pits, while the other dismembered the Howling Moon Wolf corpses.
It was not for revenge, but for the precious Soul Bones within the soul beasts.
Chen Hu personally dissected the Howling Moon Wolf King's corpse. Unfortunately, even after cutting it apart to the very end, he did not find a trace of a Soul Bone.
Tap.
A faint sound reached the ears of a White Tiger Guard. The sensation transmitted through his dagger told him that he had struck something hard.
He tore open the wound on the Howling Moon Wolf's forepaw, and a silvery-white bone came into view.
"Soul Bone! Your Highness! This subordinate found a Soul Bone!"
Under the envious gazes of those around him, Xiong Mo hurried over to Dai Mobai and knelt, presenting the Howling Moon Wolf's right arm Soul Bone with an excited expression.
Dai Mobai took the Soul Bone from the White Tiger Guard's hand.
It felt warm and smooth in his palm, like a piece of warm jade.
After examining it for a moment, Dai Mobai handed the Soul Bone back to Xiong Mo.
"You found this Soul Bone. It should belong to you."
Meeting Xiong Mo's bewildered gaze, Dai Mobai spoke calmly.
"Belong to me?! Can this subordinate have a Soul Bone too?!"
Xiong Mo's eyes widened in utter disbelief.
"Of course. The same goes for all of you. There is no such thing as turning in spoils here. What you obtain depends entirely on your luck."
Dai Mobai nodded, his gaze sweeping over the surrounding White Tiger Guards.
"Your Highness is wise!"
His words completely ignited the White Tiger Guards. Those responsible for digging quickly finished the deep pit and joined the team dismembering the wolf corpses.
Unfortunately, even after the final Howling Moon Wolf had been dissected, no second Soul Bone appeared.
Feeling the envious looks from his companions, Xiong Mo's grin never faded.
Yet amid his joy, he did not forget who had made all of this possible.
He said nothing aloud, but in his heart, Xiong Mo had already resolved to give everything for Dai Mobai.
Leaving the remaining matters to Chen Hu, Dai Mobai headed toward the tents with the sisters Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing.
Just as Dai Mobai was about to enter his own tent, Zhu Zhuqing's timid voice reached his ears.
"Crown Prince Brother, Zhu Qing is a little scared. Can you come keep Zhu Qing company?"
Although Zhu Zhuyun said nothing, the hope in her eyes seemed to say everything.
Dai Mobai could certainly have Li Yue protect the sisters at close range, but if he really did that, he would not be a Crown Prince. He would be an idiot.
"Of course."
Dai Mobai nodded with a smile.
Upon hearing Dai Mobai agree, uncontrollable joy appeared on Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing's faces.
They immediately pulled Dai Mobai into the tent.
The tent was large enough, and the rug spread across the ground could easily accommodate ten people lying down.
Yet the sisters Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing stayed especially close to Dai Mobai, one on each side, firmly sandwiching him between them.
Each of them hugged one of Dai Mobai's arms, pressing it tightly against her chest.
Zhu Zhuqing was already exceptionally endowed, but Zhu Zhuyun was even more imposing, making Dai Mobai feel as though he were floating among the clouds.
Wasn't this far more comfortable than sleeping alone?
Dai Mobai affirmed his choice once more, then slowly closed his eyes amid the faint, sweet fragrance lingering around his nose.
The night passed peacefully.
When Dai Mobai opened his eyes, it was already the next morning.
The sisters Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing in his arms were still sleeping soundly, showing no sign of waking.
Their long, slightly voluptuous legs overlapped across Dai Mobai's body. Their lovely faces, seventy percent alike, bore faint smiles, as though they were having sweet dreams.
Dai Mobai tried to pull his arms free, but after moving twice, the two of them hugged him even tighter.
Giving up, Dai Mobai closed his eyes again and went back to sleep.
When Dai Mobai opened his eyes once more, the sisters Zhu Zhuyun and Zhu Zhuqing were already awake.
Yet neither of them got up. They still clung tightly to Dai Mobai's arms.
"Good morning, Your Highness."
"Good morning, Crown Prince Brother."
Seeing Dai Mobai open his eyes, they greeted him together, their breaths fragrant as orchids.
"Good morning. Get up and eat something. Then we can prepare to head back."
Dai Mobai nodded and got up.
The instant his arms were completely pulled free and that enveloping sensation disappeared, Dai Mobai genuinely felt somewhat unaccustomed to it.
After leaving the sisters' tent, the noon sunlight fell on Dai Mobai's face, a little dazzling.
"Your Highness, the meat has been roasted. Please eat it while it's hot."
Chen Hu walked up to Dai Mobai carrying a plate of roasted meat.
Dai Mobai grabbed a piece and put it in his mouth. It was rich in fat, tender in texture, and exceptionally delicious.
"It tastes good. What kind of meat is this?"
Dai Mobai swallowed the roasted meat in his mouth and asked.
"Reporting to Your Highness, this is Soft Bone Rabbit that the brothers caught this morning. This soul beast breeds quickly and is as common as Blue Silver Grass. It is the preferred food in the Star Dou Great Forest."
"Soft Bone Rabbit?"
Dai Mobai froze for a moment.
"Your Highness doesn't like rabbit meat?"
Seeing Dai Mobai pause, Chen Hu asked quietly.
"No. I like it."
As he spoke, Dai Mobai grabbed another piece of roasted meat and stuffed it into his mouth.
He had not expected his first encounter with a Soft Bone Rabbit to happen this way. Perhaps this rabbit was even related to Xiao Wu by blood.
After all, soul beasts lived long lives. Who knew whether she had once followed her animal instincts as well?
After eating some of the Soft Bone Rabbit meat roasted by Chen Hu, everyone began the return journey.
After another seven days of jostling travel, Dai Mobai finally returned to Star Luo City after being away for several days.
After seeing off the Zhu Family sisters, Dai Mobai rode toward the imperial palace in a carriage under their reluctant gazes.
The first thing Dai Mobai did after returning to his quarters was take a long, satisfying bath.
He had just changed into clean clothes and lain down on his bed when a eunuch entered Dai Mobai's residence.
"Crown Prince, His Majesty summons you."
