When the First Elder said they should wait two days before delivering it, he knew something would go wrong.
Sure enough, something had gone wrong.
The gate to the rear courtyard of Shrek Academy stood half-open.
The First Elder raised a hand and knocked, but no one answered.
He knocked again. Still no answer.
The Fifth Elder stepped forward, pushed open the gate, and craned his head inside.
The courtyard was empty. The old locust tree was still there, and so was the stone table, but the people were gone.
Even Ancestor Tang Chen was nowhere to be seen.
The Sixth Elder followed him in and circled the courtyard once, his expression growing darker and darker.
He spotted a note on the stone table. Picking it up, he saw several words written on it.
Gone to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Don't worry.
It was signed by Flender. The handwriting was crooked, as though it had been dashed off casually.
Below that, Flender had added another line:
You've all come a long way, so thank you for your trouble. Tea has been prepared; please help yourselves.
"This is outrageous!"
The Fifth Elder slapped the stone table, making the teacups jump.
"Our mighty Clear Sky Sect came all this way in person, only to find not a single soul! What kind of nonsense is this?!"
The Sixth Elder sighed and set the note down. "Fifth Brother, say less."
The Fifth Elder snorted and reluctantly shut his mouth, though his chest still heaved violently. Clearly, he was seething with rage.
The First Elder said nothing. He simply stood there, staring at the empty courtyard, his face livid.
Suddenly, he found it rather laughable.
They had agonized over this for
