"What a clever child," the gray-robed soul master praised. He walked closer and tried to pat Yun Ze on the head, but Yun Ze dodged aside.
The gray-robed man smiled awkwardly after being avoided and pointed to a metal device by the wall. "Inject your soul power into it and test your Innate Soul Power."
Yun Ze did as instructed. Though he had only just awakened, his control over soul power was already so refined that he could wield it as he pleased, sending it out and withdrawing it freely.
As his soul power flowed in, the numbers on the device immediately began to change. One, two, three... They quickly reached ten.
Seeing this, the gray-robed soul master was delighted. His guess had been right—this child really possessed Innate Full Soul Power.
Just as he was about to tell Yun Ze to stop, his pupils suddenly contracted. To his horror, the number jumped from ten to eleven.
Then came twelve, thirteen... The number continued rising. Every increase felt like a heavy blow to his heart.
His mouth now hung open, and he was too shocked to speak. His heart pounded wildly as though he had seen a ghost.
"Level twenty?" the gray-robed soul master said stiffly, rubbing his eyes for fear that he was hallucinating.
After confirming that it really was level twenty, the gray-robed soul master stood there in a daze.
Yun Ze removed his hand from the device, feeling nothing much about having innate level-twenty soul power.
Looking at the stunned soul master, he said, "Uncle, next I should need to obtain a Soul Spirit, right?"
Over the past few years, he had read quite a few books about soul masters and had long since become thoroughly familiar with some of this world's rules.
At levels ten, twenty, thirty, and so on, one needed to obtain a soul ring in order to break through.
In the past, they directly obtained soul rings. Now, it was called obtaining Soul Spirits.
"Uh... right, no," the gray-robed soul master said after snapping back to his senses. He nodded, then shook his head, hurriedly saying, "Little friend, stay here for a while. Uncle needs to go out first, but I'll be right back. Remember, don't leave under any circumstances."
With that, the gray-robed soul master rushed out in a panic, leaving Yun Ze alone in the awakening room.
Yun Ze shook his head slightly, with no intention of leaving. He raised his left hand, and dark gray vapor poured from his palm, condensing into the shape of a dragon.
The little dragon was only as long as an index finger, tiny and compact. Its entire body was dark gray, yet its appearance was imposing and domineering, carrying an air of looking down upon the world. Chaotic aura coiled around it.
The moment it appeared, the gravity in the room seemed to increase severalfold. The air became thick, giving the sensation of being trapped in a swamp.
Seeing the dragon-shaped phantom, Yun Ze revealed a satisfied smile. It really was the Chaos Ancient Dragon.
Of course, it was not a real Chaos Ancient Dragon. Like his Phoenix Martial Soul, it was merely a manifestation of his bloodline.
The reason he was so happy to see this Martial Soul was because it proved one thing: the Ancient Dragon Life Pearl that had fused into his body had worked.
As long as it had worked, it meant the price he had paid was worthwhile.
After staring at the Chaos Ancient Dragon for a while, he put it away and quietly waited for the gray-robed soul master to return.
Half an hour later, Yun Ze removed the helmet used to test spiritual power.
Standing before him were the gray-robed soul master who had helped awaken his Martial Soul and an elderly man in black.
The old man in black was short and somewhat plump. His face bore many wrinkles, and his hair was white, but he was full of vigor and showed none of the weariness of old age.
The two stared dumbfoundedly at the device's data and cried out in unison, "One hundred and eighty-two?"
One hundred and eighty-two—Spirit Connection Realm spiritual power! "Hall Master, could this device be malfunctioning?" the gray-robed soul master asked, swallowing hard with shock written all over his face.
The people in charge of local Spirit Transfer Pagoda Branch Towers were generally called Hall Masters. Only the one at the Spirit Transfer Pagoda Headquarters was called the Pagoda Master.
The Hall Master looked at the gray-robed soul master as though he were an idiot. "Even if you malfunctioned, this device wouldn't."
The gray-robed soul master gave an embarrassed smile. "But this child's spiritual power is just too terrifying."
The Hall Master had no desire to pay attention to the gray-robed soul master. Turning to Yun Ze, he immediately put on a kind and amiable smile.
"Little friend, think it over carefully again. Our Spirit Transfer Pagoda is one of the continent's foremost powers."
"Joining us would bring you nothing but benefits. All of the Spirit Transfer Pagoda's resources would be prioritized for you."
"I can even guarantee that you will become one of the Spirit Transfer Pagoda's top figures in the future. Becoming the Pagoda Master isn't impossible either."
"You should know that the Pagoda Master of the Spirit Transfer Pagoda is someone who can command the winds and rain across the continent. If you became the Pagoda Master, how impressive would that be?"
Innate level-twenty soul power and one hundred and eighty-two points of spiritual power at six years old—such terrifying talent was simply unprecedented. He had to be recruited at all costs.
Yun Ze's answer was still a shake of the head. He completely ignored the Hall Master's persuasion and said, "Uncle, stop wasting your breath on me. No matter how much you say, it won't help. Now that my spiritual power has been tested, can you take me to choose a Soul Spirit?"
Seeing Yun Ze's resolute attitude, the Hall Master looked disappointed. "Since that's the case, I won't say any more."
"Come with me." With that, the Hall Master took the lead out of the room.
He had not needed to personally take Yun Ze there. He was only doing so to build a closer relationship with him.
Yun Ze followed the Hall Master to another room.
It was worth mentioning that they were not on the first floor, but the tenth floor of the Spirit Transfer Pagoda.
This room covered nearly two hundred square meters. Large metal devices stood along the edges of all four walls, enclosed in glass casings, with yellow and purple clusters of energy floating within.
"Your spiritual power has reached one hundred and eighty-two. In theory, you can absorb hundred-year Soul Spirits and thousand-year Soul Spirits."
"But I suggest choosing a hundred-year Soul Spirit. The energy of a thousand-year Soul Spirit is too powerful, and your body might not be able to withstand it."
Absorbing a Soul Spirit required considering not only spiritual power, but also whether the soul master's body could endure it.
The Hall Master spoke as he led Yun Ze over to one of the machines. Inside were over a hundred century-old soul rings.
Yun Ze curiously examined the yellow balls of light within the glass enclosure.
The yellow light clusters came in different sizes. The largest were nearly half a meter across, while the smallest were about the size of watermelons. The outlines of soul beasts could be seen within them.
Clearly, these light clusters had been scaled down proportionally. Otherwise, some soul beasts could not possibly have been so small.
"Pick whichever one you like. Since we get along so well, I'll make the call—no matter which one you choose, I'll give it to you for free."
"If you don't understand, I can help you. I guarantee I'll pick out the best and most suitable one for you," the Hall Master said generously.
"Thank you for your kindness, Uncle, but I do have some money. I can buy one myself." Yun Ze declined the Hall Master's offer.
The Hall Master gave Yun Ze a long look. It seemed this child's background was far from simple.
Century-old soul rings were not cheap. They started at one million Federal Currency, while high-quality ones could even approach ten million. Ordinary people simply could not afford them.
Yet this child claimed he could buy one, which meant he had at least one million Federal Currency on him.
