Splat!
Many people have witnessed a watermelon falling from a great height; it is truly a sickening sight.
Before their eyes, with a sudden crash, a fat corpse plummeted from the rooftop before they could even process what was happening. It slammed heavily into the ground, its skull shattering and blood spraying everywhere.
A violent boom echoed throughout the residential complex.
Wang Zhongguo: "Old woman, don't look."
Zhou Aijun: "Old woman, don't look."
It is a common trait among all men to shield their wives from gruesome sights, regardless of their age. Even they were left speechless and stunned by the scene before them.
How could anyone be this cruel?
"Little fatty, are you alright?"
Lin Fan knew the little fatty was already dead, but he asked out of habit.
He looked up at the rooftop, where a group of people were peering down. Realizing what had fallen, he instantly understood what had transpired.
The roars of zombies echoed from all directions.
Such a commotion had truly drawn the zombies in.
Lin Fan stood calmly in place, unhurried, and silently drew Frostmourne. He muttered to himself, Zombies, please remain rational and do not commit illegal acts. Otherwise, I shall defend myself and hack you all to death, one by one.
"Hahaha..." On the rooftop, Xiao Bin laughed wildly. He could already see numerous zombies emerging from every corner, their target being that kid and the four old men.
Look at that, so many zombies. If they tried to leave, they would surely be discovered.
Now that there was bait to draw the zombies away, their chances of escape had increased.
Run, hurry up and run. It would be best if they lured all the zombies away.
"Why isn't he moving yet?" Chen Gang frowned, noticing the kid standing there motionless. "He couldn't have been scared stupid, could he?"
Xiao Bin said viciously, "Impossible. He'll definitely run."
The other survivors on the rooftop watched Xiao Bin with great fear. Accustomed to a peaceful life, they suddenly found the world had changed. Their former values had been completely overturned; in the struggle to survive, there was no longer any moral bottom line to speak of.
They were terrified of Xiao Bin.
They felt he had gone completely insane.
"Hm? Why is he still not moving?" Xiao Bin also felt something was off. Could he really have been scared stupid? "Damn it, what a piece of trash."
They finally had such a golden opportunity; as long as they started running, they could draw all the zombies away.
The two old men watched the approaching zombies with composure.
"Young man, you run quickly. We'll hold them off here for you."
They braced themselves. If they were younger, they would have grabbed weapons and had a grand showdown with this horde of zombies long ago. But they were old now; even swinging a stick could throw out their backs.
However, they were prepared to act as human shields, using their own flesh and blood to buy a chance at survival for this young man who felt a bit strange, yet was so warm and polite.
"Old gentlemen, look at my sword. Is it cool?" Lin Fan asked with a smile.
Wang Zhongguo: ...
Zhou Aijun: ...
"I am truly very strong; I never lie. Watch me. I promised to protect you, so I certainly won't let anything happen to you."
Squelch!
Lin Fan swung his sword.
A hideous, terrifying zombie had its head sent flying high into the air in the blink of an eye, black blood splattering the ground.
Fast, accurate, and ruthless. One could not even see the motion of the sword, only flashes of afterimages.
This allowed Old Man Wang Zhongguo to see his former self in Lin Fan—the scenes of hand-to-hand combat against enemies while defending the country. He, too, had once performed the feat of decapitating an enemy with a broadsword, but to be honest, it had been exhausting and quite difficult.
Lin Fan was very dissatisfied. You zombies have your own lives, but you cannot harm others for your own pleasure, let alone when there are four elderly people behind me, some of whom are national heroes.
At this moment, he did not hesitate. He raised his replica artifact and entered slaughter mode.
Even if the police officers knew, they would give him a thumbs up and praise him: Good lad, well done.
He cleaved a zombie in two with a single strike.
He kicked a zombie flying over ten meters away.
As a row of zombies surged forward, he gripped his sword with both hands and swept it in a semi-circle, slicing them at the waist. The movement was fluid and unimpeded; when strength reaches a certain level, any flesh and blood is nothing but tofu.
"What... what is happening down there?" Chen Gang stared, dumbfounded, completely stunned by the scene before him.
Xiao Bin was filled with disbelief, muttering to himself.
"No way, he can handle so many zombies all by himself?"
He didn't believe it. How could such a person exist?
These zombies were not the slow, sluggish creatures seen in ordinary movies.
They were terrifying zombies with high speed, immense strength, and no sense of pain.
The other survivors on the rooftop watched the scene below, gasping in shock.
"We're saved."
"Indeed, if we leave with him, we'll surely survive."
Downstairs.
Lin Fan stood there, Frostmourne dripping with blood. It was as if the replica artifact had fully awakened after being stained with gore, radiating a dark, eerie glow.
The four elderly people stared in a daze.
They had never dreamed that this young man, who seemed a bit odd, could be so formidable.
Lin Fan looked around, and seeing no zombies, smiled. "Grandpas, Grandma, you see? I really am very strong."
Old Master Wang gave a thumbs up. "Well done, young man. To use you youngsters' slang, that was 'awesome'..."
Zhou Aijun recalled his time working in military research, where experts were often assigned to protect them. Those people were one-man armies, capable of holding off a dozen or twenty attackers if they had weapons.
But looking at this young man now, there was simply no comparison.
Lin Fan looked at the chubby boy who had fallen to his death. "Old Master, he was thrown from the roof. The killer is still up there."
"Yes, that's right."
"So, I intend to catch the killer and take him to the police station so he can face the full extent of the law."
Hearing what the young man said, the four elderly people exchanged glances. They liked this young man very much, but to be honest, what he said was truly strange.
Take him to the police station?
This was the apocalypse; police stations no longer existed.
"Yes, you're right, he should be taken to the police station." Wang Zhongguo nodded, fully agreeing with Lin Fan.
Zhou Aijun and the others looked at Wang Zhongguo. Good grief, even you think so? Fine, whatever the young man says goes. Come to think of it, it didn't seem entirely wrong.
The survivors on the rooftop watched Lin Fan return.
They were overjoyed.
"He's back. He must be here to protect us and help us leave."
Knock, knock!
"Excuse me, please open the door."
At that moment, a knocking sound came from outside the iron gate.
"He's come for us! We're saved!" One survivor was ecstatic and immediately moved to open the door.
"Stop!" Xiao Bin shouted in alarm, trying to intervene.
But it was too late.
To a group of survivors who had just seen a glimmer of hope, there was no way they would listen to Xiao Bin.
The iron gate swung open. Lin Fan looked at the crowd calmly and asked, "There is a chubby boy's body downstairs. Can anyone tell me who pushed him?"
"It was him! He was the one who pushed him down just now!" one survivor blurted out in a hurry.
"He's a murderer! He was the one who made us throw things down, and he was the one who threw the person. It has nothing to do with me!"
"That's right, that's right!"
The survivors shed all responsibility, pushing it entirely onto Xiao Bin. As for whether they had a hand in it themselves? That didn't even need to be asked—no, absolutely not.
Lin Fan looked at Xiao Bin, walked up to him, and grabbed his arm.
"What are you doing?" Xiao Bin roared. The man's grip was incredibly strong; he couldn't break free at all.
"You pushed someone down just now, which is a crime. I am taking you to the police station now," Lin Fan stated.
"What?" Xiao Bin was stunned, then cursed, "Are you f*cking crazy?"
Lin Fan shook his head. "Is everyone like this when they commit a crime nowadays? Making excuses, still trying to argue. Don't try any tricks, let's go."
He grabbed the man as easily as if he were picking up a chick.
"It hurts! Let go, I said let go! Brother Chen, save me..."
Xiao Bin struggled, but it was completely useless. He hurriedly shouted to Chen Gang for help, but unfortunately, Chen Gang was so terrified he had shrunk into a corner, desperate to distance himself from the situation. How could he possibly pay any attention to him?
"Big brother, take me with you! I can do anything!" a beautiful woman pleaded, occasionally trying to press her chest against Lin Fan's body.
Lin Fan replied, "I'm riding an electric scooter; it can't hold that many people. Goodbye."
As soon as he finished speaking, he closed the iron gate, then opened a small crack again. "In the future, when you encounter things like this, you must not harbor the killer. You must notify the police immediately, understand?"
Then, the iron gate was shut completely.
The survivors on the rooftop stared at each other in silence.
"He must be a lunatic." Chen Gang collapsed onto the floor, his face deathly pale. Just what kind of person was this?
