Indeed, There Are More and More Bad People

As expected... there are more and more bad people.

Four burly men stood outside the car.

One had been split in two, another had his wrist severed, and the remaining two stared in shock at Lin Fan, who held Frostmourne.

The driver was dumbfounded; without a second thought, he quickly rolled up the windows.

He shouted inside the car, "Get the f*ck in! The zombies are coming! Everyone who can get in, hurry up!" His voice was loud, but the car's soundproofing was far too effective, not to mention the people outside were already paralyzed with fear.

"Roar!"

At that moment, the dense, guttural growls of zombies echoed, and a massive flood of them appeared from every street corner and alleyway in all directions.

Some zombies smashed through glass and leaped down; others cracked their skulls or broke their legs, yet they still charged toward this spot like rabid dogs.

"Damn it!"

Seeing his accomplices standing there like idiots, the driver didn't hesitate. He slammed his foot on the gas, crashing through the horde like a gale. He carved a path by sheer force—it had to be said, this car was truly formidable; ramming through zombies was no harder than hitting tofu.

"Sh*t, I told you to get in, but you just stood there like fools. I'm not waiting for you anymore."

The driver's eyes were bloodshot and his expression twisted. The momentum from the car slamming into the zombies made his head shake violently.

As the car sped away, the surviving men finally snapped out of it. "Motherf*cker... come back!"

But the only response was the exhaust fumes trailing behind. With a sharp swerve, the car vanished at the end of the street.

"So many zombies."

Lin Fan observed the surroundings. Hearing the noise, zombies emerged from the dark corners. This was the first time he had seen such a large number of them.

"It seems that even if these zombies aren't friendly, they still bravely step forward to apprehend criminals when they find out there are any. It's just that their method of 'apprehending'... is to tear them apart with their teeth."

He held no ill will toward the zombies.

But he knew that while these zombies possessed a pure heart, they simply lacked any sense of reason.

Lin Fan grabbed the two men. He was just about to tell the man with the severed wrist to grab his companion so he could carry them both as he leaped, but who could have expected the man to fly into a rage?

"Even if I die, I'm taking you down with me!"

With one wrist gone, he used his other hand to snatch a gun from the ground and pulled the trigger. Bang.

"Ah..."

The man held by Lin Fan shrieked as his buttocks were blown open.

The gunshot echoed, igniting the zombies' bloodlust. They ran faster, closing the distance between them.

One step, two steps...

Lin Fan, carrying the two men like a pair of chickens, didn't exactly scale walls or vault over roofs, but he leaped effortlessly onto the rooftop of a two-story shop.

He looked down at the street below.

The man with the severed wrist was swarmed by zombies. His screams were constant but short-lived. If one listened closely, all that could be heard was the sound of zombies feeding and the low growls of those who couldn't get a piece of the flesh.

The man who had been shot in the butt covered his mouth, his eyes wide, not wanting to make a single sound.

Even now, he was still dazed, unable to comprehend what had just happened.

The only man who remained unscathed stared at Lin Fan in shock. A moment ago they were on the ground, and in the blink of an eye, they were on the roof. How was this even possible? Even the world's best high jumper couldn't achieve such a feat.

He looked in awe at the young man before him, who wore a security uniform and carried a replica artifact on his back.

"Big brother, thank you for saving me."

He wanted to get on Lin Fan's good side. He felt that switching to a badass big brother like this seemed like a pretty good choice. If he followed a powerful leader, he could have whatever he wanted in this apocalypse.

Lin Fan smiled. "It's alright. You stole guns from the police station, and I subdued you. Those zombies wanted to stop you too, but their methods were a bit brutal. I felt it was necessary to ensure your personal safety. Once the zombies leave, I'll take you to the police station."

Was there anything wrong with what he said?

There wasn't a single thing wrong with it.

In self-defense, accidentally causing death was unavoidable, but to continue using violence after someone had already been subdued was excessive force. If one were to accidentally kill someone, that would be negligent homicide.

The nature of the acts was different.

He understood this much about the law.

The man with the gunshot wound to his butt was sweating from the pain, staring at Lin Fan in a stupor.

The man who had been talking to Lin Fan was the same, as if he had misheard.

"Big brother, you're joking, right?"

He couldn't believe it. What was this? What police station? Could he please not make such unfunny jokes in a situation like this?

"I'm not joking," Lin Fan said with a straight face.

"This is the apocalypse now..."

"Yes, I know."

"You don't get it. It's the apocalypse! Do you understand? The apocalypse means morality and laws have collapsed. Survival is the only requirement. As long as you can survive, nothing is illegal." The man felt he might have truly encountered someone with a broken brain. Why would someone like this exist?

"Have you ever been to school?" Lin Fan asked.

The man stared at Lin Fan in stunned silence, looking foolish. He was completely baffled by the question; anyone with a shred of sanity wouldn't ask such an idiotic thing.

He had dropped out early, but he had attended school for a few years. He didn't want to say anything, though—what difference would it make? All he was thinking about now was how to escape from the man in front of him.

He had seen what this guy was capable of.

He had split a man in two with a single swing of his sword.

Before the guy could even react, he had severed his wrist, gun and all.

This was absolutely not someone he could handle.

He had a gun on him.

Should he shoot?

Don't be ridiculous; that was too dangerous.

Seeing the man keep his head bowed, Lin Fan didn't say anything more, though he felt a twinge of regret for his own behavior. Why on earth had he asked the man if he'd been to school?

Perhaps the man had come from a poor family, forced out into the world early, and eventually strayed onto the wrong path. Pitiful as that might be, what was done was done, and he would have to pay the price.

As long as the man didn't attack him, he wouldn't resort to self-defense, let alone harm him.

Suddenly, silence fell over the scene.

Lin Fan waited quietly for the zombies to leave, recalling what the older man who had set off the fireworks earlier had said: as long as there was no movement, the zombies would disperse on their own.

A long while later, he peeked down toward the street.

There were only a few scattered zombies left; the massive wave that had been there moments ago had dissipated.

He looked at the man with the buzz cut whose wrist he had severed. The man was now unrecognizable, his body mangled beyond repair, with only a blood-stained handgun lying quietly beside him.

"Let's go. I'm taking you to the police station. Don't think about ambushing me, or things will get very dangerous."

Lin Fan grabbed them and jumped down from the rooftop.

The moment they hit the ground, a few zombies wandering nearby caught the scent of three living beings and lunged at them with savage growls.

Squelch!

Squelch!

Lin Fan swung Frostmourne, dispatching them with ease.

At that moment, the man holding the gun slowly raised it, wanting to finish Lin Fan off with a shot. But when he saw Lin Fan turn around and lock eyes with him, he couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger.

Clatter!

"I'm relieved you chose to hand over the stolen firearm voluntarily, but you two... sigh."

Lin Fan shook his head, took the gun, and picked up the blood-stained one from the ground as well.

He hauled them toward the police station.

"Can you really not let us go?" the man asked in a low voice.

Lin Fan replied, "Everyone makes mistakes. Some things don't require the police, but others do. You must accept the punishment of the law. Once your time is served, you'll be released, and you'll be able to start with a clean slate. You might feel guilty about what you've done, but you don't have to carry it forever."

"You've killed people, haven't you? I can tell. Just now, you were ready to kill me at the slightest provocation. It shows that since the apocalypse began, you've unleashed the darkness in your hearts and completely abandoned morality and the law."

He seemed to be talking to himself, but in reality, he was speaking to them.

The man had never imagined encountering a situation like this. If he hadn't lacked absolute certainty, he would have acted long ago. If their boss were here and heard this guy rambling on with such nonsense, he wouldn't have hesitated for a second to hack him to death.

Since the apocalypse, their boss had become increasingly cruel, treating people like pigs, dogs, or ants, killing them at will.

Though, truth be told... they had found it rather exhilarating.

"Didn't you just hack that guy to death too..." the man said.

Lin Fan frowned slightly, looking puzzled, as if he couldn't comprehend how someone could be so ignorant of the concept of self-defense.

"He tried to kill me just now. That was self-defense. It's perfectly fine."

The corner of the man's mouth twitched.

Self-defense?

Heh!!!

Inside the police station.

As they were tied up, the two men finally realized that this guy was playing for real.

Lin Fan placed the two handguns into a drawer and wrote down the entire sequence of events on a piece of paper: someone had come to the police station to steal guns, he had noticed, someone had tried to harm him, and he had killed them in self-defense, etc.

These were things that needed to be done.

It had to be recorded in detail.

This was to prevent the police officers from being unaware of the situation upon their return, or forming misunderstandings due to incomplete records.

He made sure everything was done properly.

Looking at the two criminals he had already escorted here, he felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction.

This was his third time bringing people in, and bringing two at once suggested that as the apocalypse dragged on, the number of bad people was truly increasing.

"Goodbye."

He waved his hand.

He turned and left.

Walking through the police station corridor, he felt as if he were surrounded by an aura of righteousness.

Perhaps this was what they called positive energy.

Passing by the posters on the wall, he paused for a few seconds, feeling encouraged once more.

With a creak, he heard a slight noise. He watched quietly for a second or two, assuming the officers had finished their work and were coming out, so he quickly left without disturbing them.

"My ass hurts so much."

"Damn it, I really should have shot him."

"My ass is killing me."

"Shut up, hurry and find a way to untie these ropes, we have to get out of here."

"Damn, damn, damn, what the hell is this, fuck... ah..."
