Eating, practicing the Golden Light Incantation.
Then eating some more, then practicing some more.
For the entire day, Kraun worked hard to grind proficiency.
As he kept practicing, he felt the hollow weakness gradually lessen until it finally vanished.
It wasn't a problem with the Golden Light Incantation. Something must have happened last night.
Kraun came to that conclusion as he ate his plain rice.
After dinner, he washed up and began grinding Potion-making.
In the crucible on the workbench, bupleurum, cassia twig, kudzu root, skullcap, and white peony root were boiling.
This was a prescription for treating fever. It was actually a traditional Chinese medicine formula from his previous life.
That greatly surprised him. The power of the Proficiency Wall had also exceeded his imagination.
Maybe this cheat connected the underlying databases of two worlds!
No matter what, this was tremendously good news for Kraun.
He took out a mortar, tossed in two cicada sloughs, and ground them with practiced motions and a little force before pouring the powder into the crucible.
Picking up a glass rod, he stirred slowly and evenly, occasionally pulling it out to inspect it.
When he pulled out the glass rod again and saw the liquid clinging to it in threads, he swiftly covered the alcohol lamp to extinguish it.
With that action, joy welled up in his heart.
With a slight thought, the golden wall appeared before his eyes.
[Herbalism: 6/5000; Tier 3] (You have begun to study magical potions. Success rate for brewing ordinary potions: 100%)
As Herbalism advanced, knowledge appeared in his mind as though it had always been there.
Black Sage, one of the ingredients for the Blood-Boiling Potion, stimulated blood circulation.
Blue Tulip Petal, one of the ingredients for the Blood-Boiling Potion, raised the temperature of the blood.
The Blood-Boiling Potion definitely wasn't for ordinary people. Kraun grinned broadly. If he found the right sales channel, the speed at which he made money would rise by another level.
The following evening, after grinding the Golden Light Incantation and quickly eating dinner, he left home with a small backpack on his back and headed straight for the church.
Of course, he wasn't going to pray. He simply wanted to discuss a business deal with Father.
When Kraun met Nick, he saw that Father's brows were tightly furrowed and his lips pressed into a line.
"Praise the Lord of Flame," he said respectfully, then asked, "Do servants of the gods also have worries?"
"Praise the Lord of Flame," Father replied solemnly as he rose to his feet.
"The reason for my worries is that my Lord's lambs have been harmed again, yet I cannot catch the evil creature lurking in the shadows."
Why was little Zack Town becoming more and more unsafe? Kraun muttered to himself before asking, "What happened this time?"
"Blacksmith Smith's family and their next-door neighbors have left us. The victims' tragic state was exactly the same as in the previous Evil Spirit incidents. That demon is still wandering through the town, hiding in filthy, dark corners and waiting for the chance to spread death."
Nick's voice carried anger and frustration.
The Evil Spirit was growing stronger step by step, yet he could not stop this terrible situation because he had no idea where the murderer was hiding.
He feared no direct confrontation. Over the past few days, his exorcising abilities had grown stronger as well.
But if the Evil Spirit played hide-and-seek with him, he was completely helpless.
The church had to send an Exorcist Priest skilled in tracking to be stationed in Zack Town. At the very least, they should send someone to help him deal with that filthy Evil Spirit.
Am I some kind of jinx?
Kraun fell into self-doubt. He had been in this world for less than ten days, yet counting the incident that had killed the previous owner of this body, four supernatural evil incidents had already occurred around him.
"What did you come here for?"
Father's words pulled him from his thoughts. Kraun quickly explained why he had come.
"I've developed some Potions that people can use. I hope Father can help promote them."
Medicine in this world was underdeveloped because the Holy Water sold by churches of various faiths could actually cure illnesses. Most of the time, it worked damned well too. Its only drawback was that Holy Water was rather expensive.
This had created a situation where most poor people would endure their illnesses until they could bear them no longer, only then going to the church to offer money in exchange for Holy Water.
There were no doctors in the true sense of the word in this world. The glory of the gods had obscured that profession.
Kraun's idea was to fill that gap.
"Heh." Nick sneered. "Aren't your Potions meant for livestock? Besides, why should I help you? Wouldn't helping you mean one less source of income for the church?"
Kraun did not argue. He merely nodded and waited until Father had finished speaking before replying in a low voice.
"Father, let's be frank. Holy Water is expensive, so the amount sold every month must be limited, right? Potions are different. They're much cheaper. Ordinary people all get headaches, fevers, and diarrhea from time to time. Besides, I wouldn't let Father work for nothing. Ten percent of the sales will belong to you. What do you think?"
Nick leaned back in his chair and narrowed his eyes as he calculated for a while. "Ten percent is too little. I want twenty percent. Also, how will you prove that you've really given me twenty percent of the sales?"
Twenty percent it was. Kraun had already left room for him to bargain.
"Deal," he answered cheerfully, leaning closer to Father.
"I don't intend to sell these Potions myself. I can leave them at the church and have the church sell them."
"No." Nick interrupted him. "The church cannot participate openly. I have a younger brother named Nilie. I'll send him to help handle this matter. You'll make the Potions at home, and he'll handle their sale."
"That won't be a problem. However, he'll only be responsible for sales within Zack Town."
Nick stared at Kraun for a moment. "You're very confident. Your ambition is considerable too."
"I'm a man determined to become the Sharp Sword in the church's hand. If I can't quickly earn enough money, will Father still be willing to teach me?"
"Then you'd better hurry. Ten days have already passed."
After settling the details with Father, Kraun returned home happily.
Father's hometown was Sena City, and it would still take some time for his brother to arrive.
Over the next few days, Kraun ground the Golden Light Incantation during the day and Herbalism at night. Aside from eating, sleeping, buying herbs, and other necessary tasks, he made use of every moment of his time.
Five days passed.
One morning, Kraun stared into the mirror at his pale face and sunken eye sockets, his lips pressed tight.
As the proficiency of the Golden Light Incantation grew higher, his energy had become remarkably abundant. How could he possibly look so sickly?!
Something unknown must have happened at night.
Could he ask Father for help?
Kraun shook his head. After all, he was someone who had transmigrated here. Strictly speaking, he too was an Evil Spirit from another world, occupying the body of a person from this world.
