"Don't hurt the child!"
A cry of alarm came from behind him. Kraun recognized Avina's voice.
He remained unmoved, his gaze still fixed on the man, whose features already showed clear signs of mutation.
A low growl came from the man's throat, like that of a wounded beast, but his frantic charge really did come to a halt.
"No, don't hurt Janice. Don't." The man's expression was fierce, but his voice carried a hint of weakness.
The green tint on his face deepened. Then he crouched down again, clutching his head and gritting his teeth.
He was clearly in agony, but a tender light shone in his eyes.
Light footsteps sounded behind Kraun. The nun hurried over and took the girl from his grasp.
She shot him a fierce glare, wrinkled her delicate nose, and turned to leave.
"I knew how much force to use," Kraun protested, then strode toward the man.
"Knight, kill Del. He's already turned into a monster."
"That's right. If you don't kill him, he'll hurt someone else."
Kraun turned and swept his gaze over them. "Do I need you to tell me what to do?"
Under the weight of his authority, everyone fell silent.
He continued forward, stopping four or five meters in front of the man.
"Kill me. I'm going to lose control."
Tears welled in Del's eyes. With endless longing, he said, "I hope Janice can stay in the church."
"Have you used Holy Water?"
"I drank some, but threw it all up. It was too late. My mutation had already started before I drank the Holy Water. Kill me."
"Work with me on an experiment. There may still be a chance to save you."
Kraun hadn't yet conducted the experiment he'd planned. Now he had an excellent test subject, so he might
