Background / History

The Medicine Sect attempted to create two legendary monsters in the Wilderness: the Demon Spirit Tree and the Demon Spirit Vine. The tree was described as half-demon and half-fiend, while the vine was intended to possess demon, fiend, and ghost aspects. The vine proved far more difficult to cultivate, failed during the sect's experiments, and was ultimately surpassed by the Demon Spirit Tree. 91

Chen Changming and Du Xiaoliang discovered the vine as a small green shoot in the Medicine Sect ruins. Though timid around Du Xiaoliang, it immediately showed affection toward Chen. Chen sensed intense bloodthirst beneath its vitality and recognized that it was not a spirit plant, but a demonic beast. 91

Du Xiaoliang provided Chen with a Beast Taming Bracelet, allowing him to house the vine safely. Chen later transplanted it into his courtyard, nourished it with Cloud Rain Art and spirit herbs, and successfully formed a contract with it. 91 98

Its initially incomplete origin was gradually restored through consumption of ancient remains. It devoured part of an Ancient Demon corpse, remnants of an Ancient Demon Beast, and ultimately an Ancient Ghost body; by the latter point, its three fundamental origins had been completed. It later absorbed a sliver of Ancient Buddha origin as well. 189 277 298 337

The vine's ability to consume another Demon Spirit Vine enabled a major evolution in the Death Mist. After Chen defeated an enemy vine, Chen's own vine absorbed its remains and advanced to level eight. 354

Appearance

The Demon Spirit Vine first appears as a small, emerald-green vine with a few leaves. After feeding on Demonized Beasts, it turns black and increasingly resembles a mass of predatory, root-covered tendrils. 91 179

The vine is initially timid but openly attached to Chen Changming, responding happily to his touch and care. Its gentle behavior toward him contrasts with the bloodthirsty killing intent Chen sensed within it. 91 98

It is proactive and opportunistic in pursuit of growth. While assigned to guard Chen during his recovery, it secretly left its post to absorb the dangerous Killing Intent flowing from an ancient tomb, returning only after healing itself. 611

Years beside Chen have made it cautious in battle: it habitually retains reserve strength instead of revealing every capability at once. 1345
