Charlotte was about to head out when he saw a thin young man waiting outside the door. The boy looked somewhat uneasy, but his gaze was resolute.
Yang Melianne, an old acquaintance from Seagull City.
Charlotte greeted him with an impassive expression. "Yang, what do you need from me?" His tone was as casual as if he were asking an old friend about the weather.
Yang Melianne said softly, "I enlisted, but we weren't issued any weapons. You know that won't do, so I wanted to borrow some weapons from you."
Charlotte raised an eyebrow. "Enlisted? In which unit?"
Yang Melianne said softly, "The Evil Dragon Knight Regiment."
Charlotte said, "Never heard of it."
Yang Melianne said softly, "It was only recently formed. It used to be a local security corps, and its commander is a proper Knight."
Charlotte felt somewhat conflicted. At last, he said flatly, "I'll have you transferred out. Don't stay in that Knight Order. They're nothing but a cannon-fodder regiment. If you go there, you'll just be throwing your lives away."
Charlotte had fought quite a few battles himself and knew the Empire's military system inside and out. Knight Orders temporarily converted from local troops had extremely poor combat strength and could only be used to plug holes in the front lines. The purpose of those soldiers was to die for their allies, using their lives to achieve some tiny, insignificant strategic objective.
Yang Melianne lowered his head. "We already agreed to join them. It wouldn't be right to go back on our word. Besides..."
"Jobs are already hard to find in Strasbourg. There's no food, and we'll starve to death soon enough. At least enlisting gives us some chance of survival."
Charlotte became slightly agitated. "You've all been transferred to the West Wind Knight Regiment.
