McLean Brittany chuckled softly, only to be swallowed by sorrow again. He said in a low voice, "Nanny is also my most precious treasure! I would give all my wealth, all my lands, and all my power to have her back!"
"Go! Anne will be yours, but not as a reward from me. That is between the two of you!"
Charlotte and Antonio left together. McLean Brittany, soon to become Emperor of the Empire, looked toward the door through which they had departed and muttered to himself, "Charlot Mecklenburg... what kind of person is he, really?"
"Every sentence, every word he says is so hypocritical. It all sounds like bragging and makes people want to slap him!"
"But he truly fulfilled every word he said!"
"I really don't know whether giving Anne to him is the right choice."
"But... even if I stopped her, Anne would run away with him!"
"Anne was snatched right out of my hands by that bastard!"
"Right here, I watched him pry open my fingers one by one and take Anne away with such domineering force."
"Even so... I still really want to kill that little bastard!"
"Anne!"
McLean Brittany glanced at the pile of "testimonies" in the corner. They had been personally written by thirty-two involved parties from Silver Doveburg under very special circumstances, describing how they had "envied" Charlot Mecklenburg's brilliance and "fabricated" "rumors" about him. There was also a mountain of evidence proving how pure, flawless, and noble Charlot Mecklenburg had been in those days.
The Old Emperor's only concern was that, at the wedding, that bastard would not get too creative and reveal his "pure toad feet."
After leaving 58 Sixth Avenue in the Val-d'Oise District, Charlotte looked back at Count Brittany's residence and suddenly broke out in a cold sweat.
