Background / History
Maive was born into a southern family whose members secretly belonged to the Heavenly Bane Cult. Her father was a bank executive, her mother ran a clothing store, and she had a younger sister; behind this ordinary façade, the family worshipped Scar Father through bloodshed, sacrifice, and self-mutilation. Maive suffered persecution from the cult as a child before her mother arranged for her to leave her hometown. 61 253
She planned to study in Peel City as a folklorist, seeking distance from the cult and its influence. Her research focused on Ancient Shiru folklore, Old God worship, magic circles, and the teachings inherited from the Spirit Society. 11 12 14 142
More than a decade before the present-day story, Maive became trapped in the Tower of the Chosen slaughter game recorded in the Human Will films. She survived as the final contestant, climbed the Spiral High Tower with a boning knife, and was rescued afterward by Chairman Pala. Pala brought her to the capital, trained her in mysticism, and set her on the Path of the Flaming Sword. 209 237 261 291 446
Appearance
As a young contestant, Maive had black hair in twin tails, brown eyes, and a pale complexion. She was usually seen in a white dress, carrying a book of folklore and brass talismans. 11 12 14
- Younger appearance — Black twin tails, white dress, and women’s shoes; her dress became bloodstained during the Oldraf Village incident. 12 14
- Adult appearance — Long black hair, often tied in a single ponytail; typically wears the Investigation Committee’s high-collared black trench coat or more casual dresses when off duty. 237 249 325
- Operational attire — Carries an alchemical white pistol and uses a matchbox as the focus for her flame-based mystic power. 237 326
Personality
Maive is observant and inquisitive. On first meeting Gilan, she noticed that his calmness did not match the fear displayed by the other train passengers and directly questioned him about it. 11 12
Her scholarship does not prevent her from acting under pressure. She patiently explains obscure mystical subjects to allies, but when attacked by Miasma-corrupted villagers, she uses her Pull Doors and personally finishes them with a cleaver despite being visibly distressed by the violence. 14
Her central motivation is hatred of the Heavenly Bane Cult and the desire to gain enough power to destroy it. This purpose drove her rigorous training after Pala rescued her, and continues to shape her work in the Investigation Committee. 253 261
As a leader, Maive is decisive, practical, and attentive to civilian safety. During the pursuit of Adura Claire, she ordered survivors rescued and the hotel scene preserved while directing the Investigation Committee’s assault. 237
Abilities & Skills
