A vampire's heart was probably somewhat like a lich's phylactery. The difference was that a lich's phylactery seemed to be merely a coordinate pointing toward the real world, while a vampire's heart was the core of its life.
Liszt put the five hearts away in a long box, including Tubert's heart.
He would not trust vampires.
However, he tossed the mass of blood back to Elizabeth. "Tubert is already dead. Quite unexpected—I had originally intended to ask him a few questions. Now that the pureblood is dead, how can the other four mixed-blood vampires be contacted?"
"As long as you squeeze their hearts, my lord, they will sense it and come to see you. Once you possess our hearts, we are all your vampire servants." After her heart fell into Liszt's hands, Elizabeth swiftly changed her attitude, displaying complete tenderness and obedience.
She clearly understood that Liszt had become her master.
"Bring all of Tubert's belongings. We'll head back first, or my father will probably go have a chat with the Eldest Prince." Liszt whistled, summoning Loki the Landwalker.
Elizabeth had already absorbed the mass of blood back into her body. With a bewitching smile, she said, "My body is still very weak. Surely my lord would not mind if I rode your mount?"
"I'll be direct, Elizabeth. Your tricks are useless on me, understand? So many noble ladies of the Grand Duchy would love to share the night with me, yet few have ever caught my eye... So honestly being a vampire servant is the most sensible choice."
With that, Liszt swung onto the bird's back and raced straight toward Iron Hoof City's harbor.
Elizabeth stamped her foot where she stood, furious and vexed, yet helpless. She could only transform into a bat and pursue the receding Landwalker.
