Musa merely nodded slightly and waved a hand, indicating that he was fine.
Ian said no more. He took a few steps back and stood in the open space of the yard. With a shift of thought, faint, almost imperceptible ripples began to form in the surrounding space. He neither recited a lengthy incantation nor made any exaggerated gestures. With the movement of his will alone, he established a link with distant spatial coordinates.
The next second, his figure swayed lightly like a reflection in water, then abruptly blurred, contracted, and finally vanished from where he stood. There was no bang, no gust of air, not even the faintest breeze stirred. The entire departure was silent and swift, carrying an effortless elegance and absolute control.
Only Musa remained in the farmyard, carrying the tools he used for farming as he stared at the empty space, along with the pot of stew still bubbling away over a low flame.
After Ian disappeared, the old man's gaze slowly swept across the courtyard.
Beneath the shadows of the fence, in the corners under the eaves, beside those seemingly casually placed clay jars, several exceedingly hidden runes flickered faintly before swiftly fading away again. They were arrays he had painstakingly arranged to detect and suppress spatial magic fluctuations.
Any spatial movement without his permission, even the most sophisticated Apparition, would inevitably trigger these alarms and might even be countered by spatial disturbances.
