Background / History
Ian was a transmigrator with the soul of an adult and memories of having been a mathematics major. He grew up at Wool's Orphanage, where he supported himself through a London divination stall, used psychological insight to read clients, and acted as a guardian figure for the other children. His attribute panel granted the trait Hard Work Leads to Strength, allowing diligent practice to improve skills and unlock extraordinary traits. 1 3 6
Before entering Hogwarts, Ian discovered that he could enter Limbo—the realm of the dead—in dreams, initially on a weekly basis. There he repeatedly met Ariana, a ghostly girl with fading memories, and received a mysterious mark from her. His connection to Limbo became central to his later ability to communicate with the dead and to his relationship with the Dumbledore family. 2 3 90
Albus Dumbledore personally invited Ian to Hogwarts, while Severus Snape escorted him through Diagon Alley and supplied his school necessities. Although Ian entered the wizarding world wary of Dumbledore and its dangers, he rapidly pursued magical knowledge, including Potions, Ancient Runes, Legilimency, and forbidden Dark Arts. 2 11 24 45
Sorted into Ravenclaw, Ian formed a dormitory friendship with Michael and William, created a paid nighttime class for Ravenclaws, and became deeply involved in Hogwarts' hidden history. He acquired Ravenclaw's Diadem, uncovered Hufflepuff's Golden Room, explored the Chamber of Secrets, and was marked as one “chosen by Slytherin.” 56 73 91 102 125
Ian later learned that he was a twelve-year-old student from a future timeline. Though he could disguise himself as a composed youth of seventeen or eighteen, his true appearance was that of a black-haired child. He identified Hogwarts as his home regardless of the era or timeline in which he found himself. 557 558
Appearance
Ian's true form is that of a twelve-year-old boy with black hair, youthful features, and unusually deep dark eyes. He can alter his appearance into that of an older teenager or young adult, an identity he has used while moving through other eras. 551 558
- Distinctive deep, pool-like eyes that are difficult for others to read. 539 558
- Pale or chrome-green eyes were noted during his early Hogwarts years. 74 100
- Often wears plain dark clothing when concealing his identity outside Hogwarts. 551 600
- Can transform into a raven through his connection to Soul Hall. 226 600
Personality
Ian is highly observant, calculating, and exceptionally difficult to deceive. His early survival at an orphanage, adult memories, and Psychology mastery made him quick to notice hidden motives; he often uses charm, flattery, fabricated innocence, or deliberate eccentricity to steer other people toward conclusions he prefers. 1 9 162 170
His ambition is tempered by a genuine commitment to learning and teaching. He shares practical knowledge through private classes, studies across magical disciplines, and repeatedly seeks to understand systems that others treat as mysteries. He is especially drawn to secrets, alchemy, bloodlines, souls, and ancient magic. 24 88 91 102
Despite his willingness to use dangerous magic, Ian is not indifferent to suffering. He protected younger students during the Ashwinder attack, defended Hogwarts with Fiendfyre, treated corrupted nature spirits as victims rather than monsters, and remained attached to the orphanage children who raised him. 6 85 86 430
Abilities & Skills
Attribute Panel and Skill Growth

- Began with Language Mastery, Biological Anatomy, Freestyle Combat, and Psychology. 1
- Reached advanced Transfiguration under McGonagall, attaining Level 7 proficiency. 134
- Developed exceptional Potions ability through copying texts, experimentation, and direct study. 34 74 102

- Sensed Snape's guilt and complex emotions during their first meeting. 9
- Learned to reduce its sensitivity by emptying his mind. 11
- Developed Legilimency to at least Level 2 and learned the ancient mind art Soul-Stealing and Mind-Taking. 91 93
- Used Legilimency to bypass a secured library entrance without leaving evidence. 91
Dark Magic

- Cast the Killing Curse at Level 1 before attending Hogwarts, aided by killing intent supplied by Mara. 22
- Learned and employed the Imperius Curse, including against Marcus Flint during a confrontation. 45 88
- Deflected an attempted Killing Curse and remained unaffected by Alecto Carrow's Cruciatus Curse. 85
- Modified and used Sectumsempra, impressing even Snape with its power. 102
Fiendfyre
Ian is a highly unusual first-year master of Fiendfyre, able to summon and control the cursed flame with precision rather than simply unleashing it destructively. 45 81 86

- Used Fiendfyre to destroy Ashwinders during the attack on Hogwarts. 85
- Killed Aymar Clinan Frayz while preventing Hogwarts from being burned down. 86

- Consumed Voldemort's soul within a time loop, raising Ian's magical power to Level 9. 134
- Is treated by Ian as one of his strongest opening attacks, though he once acknowledged that his extended-combat experience was comparatively shallow. 120
- Later used alongside his legendary abilities against Voldemort's Horcrux replicas. 550 551
Limbo, Patronus, and Authority
Ian can cross the boundary between life and death through Limbo and retains an unusual connection to its inhabitants. His mutated Patronus Charm projects scenes from Limbo rather than taking a normal corporeal form. 3 113 114
- Communicates with Ariana and carries messages between her and Dumbledore. 90 99
- Created and used a Patronus Ring described as a “bootleg Resurrection Stone.” 128
- Was identified by Helena Ravenclaw as possessing an authority that ordinary wizards should not touch. 115
- Holds the Authority of Paradox and later absorbed part of the Authority of the Old Ones from Cthulhu. 287 613
- Used purified Deep Space power to block Deep Space's perception of a world. 613
Alchemy, Invention, and Magical Engineering
Ian combines magical research with Muggle technological concepts. He considers magical technology more promising than a single-disciplinary approach and routinely develops practical magical devices. 102 106
- Created the Marauder's Map using the Quill of Acceptance and Book of Admittance. 91
- Brewed the Infinite Fire Potion and discovered the Room of Requirement's true name, Hufflepuff's Golden Room. 102
- Created the Anti-Magic Potion, which can temporarily turn ordinary wizards into Squibs and weaken stronger wizards. 114
- Built magical heating underwear, though the venture failed when the Weasley twins outcompeted him. 102
- Uses alchemical methods to alter magical authorization systems through imitation and assimilation rather than force. 424
Creature Affinity and Control
Ian possesses a notable affinity for magical creatures and has repeatedly formed unusual relationships with beings normally hostile or unreachable to wizards. 42 99 244
- Fawkes groomed him despite the phoenix's normally aloof nature. 42
- Forced a Dementor to assist with potion preparation and later used it for cleaning and disposal work. 99 113
- Could sense and restrain Jormungandr's chaotic consciousness. 244
- Subdued three corrupted spirits of nature without killing them. 430
