Background / History

Dugu Bo’s family suffered from hereditary toxin backlash associated with its snake martial souls. Relatives and clansmen died from the condition across successive generations, including Dugu Yan’s father. Dugu Bo himself experienced excruciating rib pain in cold, rainy weather and concealed the family’s defects from his granddaughter 13 16 18.

In his early years, Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo hunted him. Prince Xue Xing’s assistance allowed him to survive, leaving him indebted to the prince despite his low opinion of Xue Xing’s character 19.

Before meeting Tuoba Xuan, Dugu Bo possessed the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Well in the Sunset Forest. When he first arrived there as a newly advanced Titled Douluo, he fought the Golden Earth Dragon King but failed to gain the upper hand 14 23.

Personality

Dugu Bo is irritable, proud, and dangerous when provoked. During his first encounter with Tuoba Xuan, he grips the boy’s throat with a venom-coated hand and threatens torture. He also briefly considers killing Tuoba Xuan to seize the opportunity behind his rapid advancement 13 14.

His granddaughter’s safety takes priority over both convenience and personal comfort. He rejects a safer treatment that would drastically reduce his strength because it would leave him unable to protect Dugu Yan. The prospect of ending his family’s hereditary suffering wins his wholehearted cooperation 15 16.

He places great importance on loyalty and repayment of favors. This keeps him responsive to Xue Xing’s requests and turns his initially hostile relationship with Tuoba Xuan into a close friendship. Once trust is established, his manner becomes playful: he races Tuoba Xuan, teases him, and persistently tries to match him with Dugu Yan 12 18 19 22.
