Bibi Dong is an orphan who seeks higher status while also wanting to help people who suffer as she once did. As Spirit Hall's Saintess and expected future Pope, she initially hopes to combine that ambition with marriage to Yu Xiaogang 4.

After Yu Xiaogang is banned from Spirit Hall's library, she continues borrowing books for him. Qian Xunqian challenges her willingness to share Spirit Hall's accumulated knowledge with the son of another faction's leader and explains the political obstacles to their relationship.
