A few days later, the Luo family was already on the road to Tiandou City. They had purchased a carriage, though the beast pulling it was a Blazing Wolf.
As Luo Chen's strength grew, the Blazing Wolf's cultivation had also increased, now exceeding five hundred years.
"Brother, how much longer until we arrive?" Luo An'an had never traveled far from home. At first, she found it novel, but as time passed, she grew bored, confined to the carriage.
"It will still be a while. What's wrong, An'an?"
Luo An'an said, "I'm so bored, Brother! Can we go outside and ride the big bird?"
"Alright!" Luo Chen scooped up Luo An'an, told his parents, and summoned the Ice Feather Eagle to fly off with her. Naturally, they didn't fly far, merely circling the nearby area.
If one wondered why their luggage was so sparse, it was because Luo Chen had stored it all inside the Nightmare Ring. He actually found it quite strange—why was the space inside this Nightmare Ring so vast? A soul tool with such a large storage capacity shouldn't be something that appears easily.
Could this ring hold other secrets? He didn't dwell on it, however, choosing instead to soar through the sky with his sister.
"Wow, Brother, look! The people down there are so tiny!" Luo An'an cheered. "The scenery here is different from back home!"
"That's right, this is a plains region, very open. Back home, we have the vast ocean, don't we?"
"Yes!"
Eventually, Luo An'an grew tired, and so did the Ice Feather Eagle. Lately, it truly felt that flying was a burden, but who could blame it when this little ancestor was the master's sister?
The thousand-year-old Ice Feather Eagle actually revealed a human-like emotion—grievance.
Luo Chen waited until his sister had finished playing before heading back. Yet, when he sensed his parents' location, he discovered some strangers.
Luo Chen's gaze turned icy; he could clearly sense the malice radiating from that group!
"Ice Feather Eagle, full speed ahead!"
Sensing its master's mood, the Ice Feather Eagle beat its wings violently, its speed surging instantly. The cold wind whistled past their ears.
Luo An'an was startled by the sudden acceleration and clung tightly to Luo Chen's neck.
"Brother, why are we going so fast? I'm scared!"
"It's okay, An'an, be a good girl. Close your eyes. I'm here, don't be afraid."
Though young, Luo An'an was obedient. She immediately buried her face in Luo Chen's chest and closed her eyes.
A brilliant purple light flared in Luo Chen's left eye. His Spirit Abyss Realm mental power spread out like a tidal wave, instantly shrouding the area for several miles.
He "saw" it: their carriage was stopped in the middle of the road, and the Blazing Wolf was being restrained by ropes held by several Great Soul Masters, struggling violently.
Luo Dashan was being pinned to the ground by two men, while Lin Xiaomei was being dragged by the arm by a burly man with a scarred face. Seven or eight other men stood nearby, brandishing blades and clubs.
Luo Chen was enraged!
The Ice Feather Eagle dove downward! The gale whipped up by its wings sent dust swirling into the sky!
Luo Chen didn't wait for the Ice Feather Eagle to land; he jumped straight down from the air while holding Luo An'an.
The moment he touched the ground, he landed on one knee to absorb the impact. Luo An'an remained nestled quietly in his arms, undisturbed.
"Who goes there?" The burly man, who appeared to be the bandit leader, was startled and whipped his head around.
He froze upon seeing a silver-haired youth jump from the back of a giant white eagle, carrying a little girl in his arms.
Luo Chen ignored him.
He set Luo An'an on the ground, crouched down, ruffled her hair, and whispered, "An'an, stay here and don't move. Close your eyes and cover your ears. When you count to ten, open them, okay?"
"Mm-hmm!" Luo An'an nodded vigorously.
Luo Chen stood up and turned toward the group of bandits.
His left eye was a vertical purple pupil, his right a silver circular one, and his long, silver-white hair fluttered slightly in the wind.
He released his Spirit Abyss Realm mental power without reservation, and an invisible pressure permeated the air.
"Who gave you permission to harm my parents?" Luo Chen spoke coldly, his voice so low it made everyone shiver!
The bandit leader dragging Lin Xiaomei involuntarily let go.
Luo Chen didn't answer. He walked over to Luo Dashan and glanced down at the two men pinning his father. Those two had already been turned pale by his mental pressure, their grip long since loosened.
A flash of light crossed Luo Chen's eyes, and the two men rolled their eyes back and died on the spot!
Two Great Soul Masters, killed in an instant by Luo Chen!
Luo Dashan scrambled up from the ground. There was blood at the corner of his mouth and a bruise on his face, but he seemed otherwise unharmed.
Seeing his son kill those two with a single strike, his lips moved, but he ultimately only said, "Be careful."
Luo Chen continued, "I'll ask one more time: who gave you permission to harm my parents?"
The leader, assuming Luo Chen had merely knocked the two men unconscious, swallowed hard and continued, "I am the king of these parts! This road belongs to me, and travelers must pay a toll! If your old man won't pay, then I'll...!"
Before he could finish, Luo Chen was already in front of him, gripping his throat.
Covering the dozen-meter distance in two strides, Luo Chen seized the leader by the neck, squeezing until the man's veins bulged!
The bandit leader's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. His face turned from white to red, then to purple, as a "gurgling" sound escaped his throat.
"Hmph, so you're nothing but a pest." Luo Chen stopped holding back. A flash of light in his eyes sent a mental attack straight into the leader's brain, instantly turning his mind into mush and sending him to his grave on the spot.
With those three dead, the remaining few were merely ordinary Soul Masters—weaklings. At this moment, the Blazing Wolf, having been taken advantage of while it was vulnerable, was no longer willing to hold back.
Taking advantage of his exhaustion to try and lasso him—he truly wanted to tear these people to shreds.
Luo Chen didn't even look at those few men; instead, he released his soul beasts and had them deal with the lot of them!
This had truly crossed Luo Chen's bottom line, and he was certain those bandits would be tortured to death by the soul beasts.
Luo An'an had already counted to ten by then, and she asked impatiently, "Brother, are you done yet?"
"I'm done, An'an. Brother is coming to pick you up."
Lin Xiaomei walked over and took Luo An'an from Luo Chen's arms, looking him up and down. "You aren't hurt, are you?"
"I'm fine. Where's Dad?"
"He's fine, just some superficial wounds." Luo Dashan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, glanced at the group of bandits, and frowned. "What do you intend to do with that bunch?"
Luo Chen didn't answer, instead giving Luo Dashan a deep look. Luo Dashan caught the meaning behind those eyes and couldn't help but shudder.
Those men were likely already reduced to nothing, though Luo Chen couldn't say as much; he was afraid of frightening his mother and sister.
The family packed their things. Fortunately, most of their luggage was with Luo Chen, otherwise, those bandits might have already snatched their belongings and fled.
This incident served as a reminder to Luo Chen that he needed to accelerate the development of the Gulu Ball soul tool. Since he couldn't be by his parents' side at all times, he would find them some powerful "bodyguards"!
Not long after, the soul beasts returned...
