Lin Sheng took a deep breath. The cool morning air rushed down his throat and into his lungs, clearing his head considerably.
"Just now... was I dreaming?" He could clearly remember seeing two white figures.
The bone-deep fear he'd felt when he saw them remained fresh in his memory.
"Why couldn't I enter Black Feather City?"
Lin Sheng sat up in bed, his brows knitted tightly.
"Could it have been that ritual?"
He got out of bed and touched his neck. It was drenched in sweat, and he smelled a little foul.
When he came out of the bedroom, Wang Yue was in the living room, talking on the landline with a grim expression. She seemed to be discussing something.
Lin Sheng went to wash up first. After washing his face and brushing his teeth, he changed into his school uniform and picked up his backpack.
By the time he entered the living room, Wang Yue had finished her call. She sat on the sofa, looking utterly dejected. When she saw Lin Sheng up,
she managed a faint smile.
"Chenchen, I've already made breakfast. It's on the kitchen stove. You can steam it with some water and eat."
She'd been staying here these past few days, and to show the slightest bit of gratitude to Lin Sheng's family, she'd conscientiously washed the dishes, cooked, and done the laundry every day.
Lin Sheng had gone from being dissatisfied with her at first to gradually warming to her.
"It's okay. I'm almost out of time, so I'll head to school first." He took a closer look at Wang Yue. Her eyes were sunken, and she looked utterly haggard.
"Sis Yue, whatever's going on, you should talk it over with your family. It's more important to figure out a solution together."
"I know.
