Madara operates from the shadows after leaving Konoha, watching the Uchiha clan and reacting strongly to Uchiha Genmei's rapid rise. Rather than viewing Genmei solely as a threat, he takes pride in the emergence of an Uchiha whose ocular power can surpass his own. He also resents Konoha's historical confinement of the Uchiha to the Military Police Force. 43

Seeking to make the Uchiha indispensable, Madara manipulates the Third Mizukage and other villages toward war, intending for Konoha to be forced to rely on the clan. 47 During this period, he confronts Uchiha Hikari, tests her abilities, and deploys a colossal Susanoo after her Sage-enhanced combat power pressures him. 49 52

Madara later battles Genmei directly. Although Genmei outpaces him in speed and strength, Madara's combat experience prevents Genmei from gaining a decisive advantage.
