Just as Kuo Ming had said, Jiang Xin's workplace exploded the following day due to special circumstances. Aside from the director, who escaped disaster by attending a meeting off-site, all other personnel perished.

While Jiang Xin was still in his new home worrying about Kuo Ming, he did not expect that two hours after the explosion, Kuo Ming would stand before him, completely unscathed.

Having lived here for three days now, Kuo Ming spoke to Jiang Xin about joining the Pitch Black organization before he left.

"Jiang Xin, with your abilities and potential, I think living a normal life is a waste. You belong to the curious type; joining Pitch Black couldn't be better. Pitch Black collects data on all the strange events that have occurred in the world, and even if a new strange event happens, we can obtain intelligence immediately. Plus, the organization is very free. You can consider it; I'll come find you again in a few days."

In truth, Jiang Xin wanted to agree right then and there, but he wanted to stall for a few days. He didn't know the real reason why, but he tacitly agreed anyway; once Kuo Ming returned, he would ask to join Pitch Black.

After changing into his outdoor clothes, he walked to the main street. Watching the diverse crowd of pedestrians, Jiang Xin felt as though he were even less capable of coexisting with others. He walked all the way to a small park and sat down on a bench.

The park was relatively quiet, or at least there was no one making a scene. Jiang Xin sat on the stone bench, lost in thought.

At that moment, a loud noise interrupted his contemplation. He looked up toward the source of the sound and saw a man in black clothes holding a gun, pointing it at a woman collapsed on the ground while saying something.

Jiang Xin was not a meddlesome person, so he stood up, preparing to walk away.

Just as the people in the park had mostly cleared out, Jiang Xin suddenly turned back to look and discovered that the woman had actually stood up.

The woman's entire body was twitching incessantly, emitting shrill screams. Seeing this, Jiang Xin immediately turned his body back around.

The man with the gun retreated a few steps and fired several shots at the woman, but it seemed she had entered some kind of state and did not fall.

The woman continued to scream, her body twitching even more violently as if something were trying to bore its way out from within her. With a final shriek, her entire body burst open. Amidst the pool of blood, a black, humanoid figure stood there, though it was unclear what exactly it was.

However, one thing was certain: it was definitely not human. The thing had black wings and horns on its head.

Jiang Xin had seen this type of creature on television, and he had even seen the corpse of one, though that was over a year ago. Yet, Jiang Xin could be certain that what stood there was a "Ning," which he had studied carefully in the past. These creatures were new lifeforms created after aliens inhabited human bodies and died; they were highly aggressive, so they were eliminated as soon as they were discovered.

Jiang Xin was very glad he hadn't left quickly. He stood in the distance, watching the man with the gun.

The man with the gun showed no surprise at the sight of the Ning. He waved his hand, calling out another companion.

From behind the Ning, another man in black appeared. He held a long spear and thrust it toward the Ning, but the Ning leaped high to dodge it.

The man with the gun immediately fired several shots at the Ning, which was about to land. Because of the impact of the bullets, the Ning could not land properly and crashed headfirst into the ground. Just as it was preparing to crawl up, the man with the spear had already driven his weapon into the Ning's head. Green liquid splattered everywhere, and the Ning died without even letting out a cry.

At this point, the two men in black walked together. The man with the gun said to Jiang Xin, "Brother, aren't you planning to go and copy it?"

Jiang Xin was startled, then walked up to the man in black and said, "How did you know I have Copy Power?"

The man with the gun laughed and said, "Heh heh, I possess Insight Power, which allows me to directly view other people's powers. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Deng, and this is my companion, Zeng. We are the Asian Twin Eagles, currently active in the Japan Guild."

Jiang Xin smiled slightly, then walked over to the Ning and copied its power.

After Jiang Xin finished copying, Deng said in surprise, "Not bad luck, it's actually Combat Power. If you use it well, it might evolve into Omnipotence Power."

Jiang Xin gave a wry smile. For someone like him, Combat Power didn't seem like the kind of power he liked.

Just then, Zeng took a phone call. He seemed to be in a hurry, so he called Deng and left. As Deng departed, he left their contact number with Jiang Xin.

Watching Deng and Zeng leave, Jiang Xin knew these two belonged to the Prey Guild (a guild that specifically takes on special missions, where members choose their tasks freely), so he noted down the contact number.

Taking one last look at the Ning lying on the ground, Jiang Xin walked out of the park. He returned to his new home, collapsed onto his bed, and fell asleep.

The next day, Jiang Xin woke up very late; he hadn't slept this well in a long time.

He tidied up a bit and went out. It seemed that until Kuo Ming arrived, he could only go out and wander around.

The park from yesterday had already been cordoned off by the police, and the television had reported on the Ning incident yesterday, though for certain reasons, the reporters did not cover the scene itself.

Jiang Xin found a random restaurant and finished a hasty lunch. Just as he was about to leave, he was stopped by a voice.

"Hey, are you that person from last night?"

Jiang Xin turned his head to see that it was indeed Zeng and Deng. It was true; yesterday, he hadn't even had the chance to tell them his name.

Jiang Xin paused and said, "Yeah, I forgot to introduce myself yesterday. My surname is Jiang, and my given name is Xin."

Deng smiled and gestured for Jiang Xin to sit over.

After Jiang Xin sat down, Deng said, "The two of us recently took a mission regarding a giant Ning that is about to be born. The goal of the mission is naturally to eliminate it. However, after a few days of investigation, we discovered that the guy can actually control the host's actions before it has even fully transformed into a humanoid. Furthermore, it lives right downstairs from you. I want you to cooperate with us to eliminate it."

Jiang Xin furrowed his brows and said, "Why look for me? I don't have any combat experience."

At this, Zeng spoke up, "Kuo Ming asked us to find you, saying it would serve as a small test for you joining Pitch Black."

Jiang Xin gave a helpless smile and said, "Well, there's no helping it then. When do we move?"

Deng smiled and said, "Immediately. We must resolve it before it hurts anyone."

Jiang Xin picked up the chopsticks on the table and said, "What is my task?"

Deng stood up and said, "You are responsible for taking care of an ordinary Ning. So, come with me."

Jiang Xin nodded in tacit agreement, though he felt no confidence inside. Even though he possessed Combat Power, he had never truly fought before...

Arriving in front of the room Deng had mentioned, Zeng kicked the door open and rushed in. Deng and Jiang Xin followed immediately behind.

Inside, two Nings had already completed their transformation. One of them, which lacked wings, was relatively much larger, while the one with wings was the same size as the one he had seen last time.

Zeng charged forward with his long spear, and Deng said to Jiang Xin, "A Ning only takes real damage if you attack its head; other parts are quite hard. Its main attack methods are claws and kicks. Just be careful and dodge them. I'm going to help Zeng." Having said that, he pulled out the handgun he carried with him and began his attack.

Jiang Xin nodded, then charged toward that Ning...

Will Jiang Xin be able to pass his first battle? Please watch the next chapter.
