The 100-120 meter stretch was fraught with danger; at least, that was what Guangcheng Heming believed.
While still in a slumber, Heming vaguely heard his phone ringing.
"Hey, Heming, it's Qiming. It's great that you're still alive. I forgot to tell you one thing: the structure of Freshwater Lake is much more complex than before. There are creatures living at depths you can't handle. Those guys sometimes move around the vicinity of the depths you're at, though they aren't seen often. Anyway, if you see something colorful, just run. They aren't suited for water deeper than that, so they won't follow you past that point. Oh, right, according to accurate information gathered by Pitch Black from the Water Dragon we currently possess, the Water Dragon likes to operate between 100-150 meters, and its range is quite broad. When you see it, remember to watch out for two things: first, the water bubbles it spits from its mouth, and second, its tail. That's all..." The call ended.
Operating between 100-150 meters—did that mean it was exactly the area Heming needed to search? In that case, Heming could narrow his search range to around 100-130 meters; this would increase the chances of encountering the Water Dragon while reducing search time and preventing encounters with the things lurking deeper down.
Looking at the phone in his hand, Heming suddenly wondered: why hadn't the phone been damaged in water 100 meters deep? Was it the Chain of Ming? Or the Pitch Black Heart Method? No, it definitely wasn't the Pitch Black Heart Method, as he had only used it once underwater—the time he was ambushed by a Water Centipede. It must be the Chain of Ming. A hidden attribute? That had to be it. Thank goodness for this Chain of Ming; otherwise, how could his clothes and such remain dry while underwater?
Abandoning further speculation, Heming dove into the water.
Swimming in a straight line to the 100-meter mark, Heming began to observe the environment. The primary creatures here were still the 2-3 meter long fish, and occasionally he would see a Water Centipede swimming past rapidly.
At 110 meters, the first search location, the difference seemed much greater. The smallest fish here were over 3 meters long, and Heming couldn't even name these species.
The largest among them was over 5 meters long. This fish was entirely white, with several long whiskers hanging beneath its mouth, red eyes that looked terrifying, and a mouth filled with incomplete teeth. Most surprisingly, this fish's prey was actually the Water Centipede.
Shortly after Heming descended to that depth, he saw two Water Centipedes preparing to ambush a 4-meter-long black fish. Suddenly, a massive white creature charged from behind and bit down hard on one of the Water Centipedes. The centipede was instantly severed in two, and the other fled immediately, while the large white fish slowly sucked in the remains of the centipede.
Fortunately, the white fish did not attack Heming. He had tested it; even if you swam right up to it and stroked it, there was no problem. This fish felt very hard and slippery to the touch.
Another day of searching passed, and Heming still hadn't found the Water Dragon.
Back on the speedboat, just as Heming was preparing to sleep, a long howl suddenly rang out.
The Water Dragon—Heming was almost certain.
Following the direction from which the howl came, Heming swam rapidly. He dove into the water, staying about 6 meters below the surface, just in case he needed to launch a surprise attack if he encountered the Water Dragon.
Reaching his destination, Heming was astonished by what he saw: two frigates were towing a massive net, and inside that net was the Water Dragon he had been searching for so long.
Heming sensed trouble, yet he didn't dare reveal himself suddenly. He didn't know what kind of opponent he was dealing with that could allow frigates to sail into these waters.
After deep thought, Heming decided it was best to greet the people on the frigates first. If there was truly no other way, he could still go to the Vietnam Company to ask for reinforcements.
As the frigates continued to move, Heming channeled the Pitch Black Heart Method and leaped onto the deck of one of the ships. A large group of people was standing there, and they were naturally startled by his arrival.
"Who are you?" one of them, the first to regain his composure, asked Heming.
Heming bowed politely to express his apologies before saying, "My name is Guangcheng Heming, a member of the Pitch Black Special Operations Team. My current mission is to locate and capture a mutated creature. Seeing that your ship had captured it before I could, I came to offer a greeting."
Hearing this, the group stopped stammering. One man wearing a black suit stepped forward and said, "Oh, dear Mr. Guangcheng Heming, we are merely testing our new inland-use frigates here. We happened to encounter that mutated creature and decided to test our new capture net. We are honored to have caught it on the first try. Of course, we don't intend to take it back. Even if you hadn't arrived, we would have released it upon leaving the inland waters. If you wish to take it back, that's fine, but could you grant a small request for everyone here?"
After hearing him speak, Heming guessed what the request was.
"Fine. Release it, and I will capture it right in front of you," Heming said directly before jumping back into the water.
At this moment, the two frigates used their loudspeakers to call everyone to the rear deck. A dense crowd gathered. Heming stood on the surface of the water, waiting for the enraged Water Dragon.
The net was retrieved, and the Water Dragon surfaced, howling at Heming...
The Water Dragon was entirely blue. It wasn't as complex as the dragons of legend; it was simply a water snake with a different color and four added legs.
"Pah!" A powerful water bubble blasted toward Heming. Fortunately, Heming was on the surface, where he was much more agile than underwater, and he dodged it easily.
Just as he dodged the bubble, before Heming could react, he was struck heavily by the Water Dragon's tail. A gasp of shock erupted from the frigates.
Watching his opponent get sent flying, the Water Dragon paused, staring at the retreating Heming. Suddenly, a figure appeared right in front of it. What was this?
It was Heming. He channeled the Pitch Black Heart Method and struck the Water Dragon in the face with a fierce punch.
"Agh!" The Water Dragon let out a pained cry. Its head tilted into the water, though its body remained on the surface.
Seizing the opportunity, Heming pulled out the Demon Sealing Orb, channeled the Pitch Black Heart Method, and struck it hard against the Water Dragon's body.
A flash of white light erupted, and the Water Dragon was absorbed into the Demon Sealing Orb.
Cheers erupted; everyone on the frigates was cheering.
If this had been a movie that cost dollars to watch, these people would certainly have been willing to pay to see this few-seconds-long spectacle.
Afterward, Heming jumped onto the deck, exchanged a few words with the man in the suit, and dove back into the water.
Back on the speedboat, Heming lay on the deck, looking up at the sky and reflecting on that moment.
When he had jumped into the water, he had used Necromancy to create a zombie that looked just like him. This magic consumed a fair amount of mana, so Heming hadn't been sure he could maintain it until the Water Dragon showed an opening. Fortunately, the enraged Water Dragon hadn't noticed that its true enemy was lurking only about 5 meters away.
Thrilling. Heming loved this feeling, and the subsequent cheers made him feel even more satisfied.
After resting for three hours, Heming steered the boat toward the shore...
One day later, at the Pitch Black Japan Branch, Heming stood in Qiming's office.
"What? You're back already? Damn, that was fast, wasn't it?" Qiming was incredibly surprised to see Heming back so soon.
"The mission is complete. This is the Demon Sealing Orb with the Water Dragon, and this is the one Kuo Ming asked me to give you." Heming took out two Demon Sealing Orbs and tossed them to Qiming one after the other.
"Hmm? Good. Go collect your reward, and later, go find Kuo Ming at the US Washington Regional Branch." Qiming seemed intent on having Heming leave.
Heming offered a brief greeting and departed.
At the item collection office, Heming received a new ring and a black rose with thorns.
Back home, Heming began channeling the Pitch Black Heart Method toward the thorny black rose. The black rose melted, transforming into a black pill and a pair of strange shoes.
"Congratulations to this lucky member for obtaining a One Month Cultivation Pill and the special weapon: a pair of Foot Talons. The ability of the Foot Talons is to increase attack power and movement speed. Of course, these will only manifest when you channel the Pitch Black Heart Method. When you are not channeling the Pitch Black Heart Method, the Foot Talons will be like air, invisible to everyone."
His luck was truly excellent this time; it was actually a One Month Cultivation Pill and a weapon. Guangcheng Heming swallowed the pill with great delight, then strapped the Foot Talon onto his feet...
Originally, Heming had intended to head to the United States immediately.
However, a sudden thought of that female terrorist from last time made him run back to the Pitch Black Video Game Hall on the pedestrian street.
When Heming reached the second floor, he discovered that the original Real Combat Simulation System had been replaced, and a sign now hung on the wall.
"Due to the overwhelming requests of our players, the Pitch Black Company has specially decided to change this location into the Real Ancient Roman Combat Simulation System in fifteen days..."
Real Ancient Roman Combat Simulation System? How thrilling; he would definitely have to come and play a round when the time came.
After leaving the game hall, Heming returned to the branch office. Sitting in his own office, he didn't know what he was thinking about...
"Excuse me, um... um... could you do me a favor?" A girl interrupted Heming's thoughts.
This girl? Ah! Right, it was that female terrorist from last time!
"Ah, what is it?" Heming asked in return; clearly, he was still a novice when it came to girls.
"Um... could you accompany me to a place? Ah... sorry... um... if you don't want to... then forget it... I'm sorry..." The female terrorist spoke in pure Japanese, her stuttering tone incredibly cute.
By this point, Heming had already been "attracted" by the girl before him, so he said, "Ah, it's fine, I'll just go with you."
"That's great... oh... um... my name is Sanada Rie... you can just call me... Rie." With her soft, delicate voice and adorable face, Heming was already a goner...
"Ah, my name is Heming. Where are we going? Let's go!" Heming's reply was still somewhat rational; it was a miracle he hadn't blurted out his full name, Guangcheng Heming.
"Um... please follow me... it's hard to explain..." After saying this, Rie turned and walked out the door.
Heming followed without a moment's hesitation.
Two hours later, in the red-light district of Okinawa, Japan...
On the way, Rie explained the situation to Heming. Yesterday, during the final round of the Real Combat System, Rie had taken first place as usual. However, a few thugs from the Allied Forces side were sore losers, but they didn't dare cause trouble inside the game hall. So, this morning, they had kidnapped the two female classmates who were with Rie, demanding that she bring the first-place medal to ransom them, or else they would ** those two girls. Rie didn't have the medal, but she happened to see Heming preparing to return to the company at the entrance of the game hall that afternoon, so she had followed him.
Before long, Heming and Rie arrived at the designated location: Yiji Bar.
Rie walked in, clutching Heming's arm. Once inside, it was easy to spot the people who had kidnapped Rie's classmates; a dozen or so of them were sitting in the very center of the bar, likely acting as the bar's security.
Heming walked straight to the center of the bar and said to the thug sitting in the middle, "Let them go, or you'll be checking into a hospital. Which do you choose?"
The thug was stunned; he couldn't believe this guy had come alone and was acting so arrogant. He grabbed a beer bottle from his side and charged forward.
Amidst Rie's scream, the thug was sent flying two meters by Heming and collapsed onto a sofa.
The other dozen or so thugs were quite loyal to their own; they grabbed their weapons and charged at Heming. Unfortunately, their fate was the same as their leader's—they flew two or three meters away, all collapsing to the ground and groaning...
Heming reached out, grabbed the leader, and lifted him up. "Where are those two girls? Release them immediately!"
"In... in... the red... private room..." After saying this, he fainted. What a weakling.
Heming took Rie, who was still in a daze, and ran to the red private room. At the door, Heming could hear the girls' screams from inside.
"Bang!" He kicked the door open. Two fat men were just about to strip the girls' clothes off. Clearly, if Heming hadn't arrived just now, these two girls would have been ruined!
He walked over and kicked each of them, sending both fat men flying. He glared at them and said, "I'll let you two spend a few months in the hospital to see if you ever dare to do this again!"
"Swish, swish!" Two throwing stars flew at Heming from behind. He spun around and kicked the two projectiles away, then channeled his Pitch Black Heart Method and charged at the person who had thrown them.
"Ice Style: Infinite Consecutive Fangs." Countless ice spikes shot toward Heming at high speed.
"Hmph!" With a flying kick, Heming cleared all the ice spikes.
"Stop, Nakagawa, stand down!" an elderly, authoritative voice shouted.
Heming stood in front of Rie, while the two girls found some spare clothes and put them on.
An old man stepped out from the crowd and said to Heming, "Chinese! Why do you attack my fellow Japanese citizens for no reason?"
Heming smiled and pointed at the group of people lying on the ground, saying, "They kidnapped and extorted your fellow Japanese citizens." Then, pointing at the two fat men inside, he added, "They were preparing to ** your fellow Japanese citizens. I was merely stepping in to stop such things from happening. By rights, you should be thanking me; why attack me from behind?"
The old man glanced at the people on the ground, an expression of disgust immediately appearing on his face. He bowed to Heming and said, "Honorable guest, please forgive my disciple's unreasonable behavior. My name is Oda Sankyoku, and I am the Jonin responsible for protecting this area."
Heming smiled slightly and said, "My name is Heming. Since everything is fine now, I'll take the girls home first. They've been quite shaken."
Sankyoku nodded and let them pass...
After Heming brought the three girls out of the red-light district, he left his phone number and departed.
He believed that the further he stayed away from these girls, the safer they would be...
