"Ha." Heming swiftly dodged an attack from the advanced zombie. By now, he had figured out its attack pattern; aside from diagonal and horizontal slashes, it knew no other moves.
Furthermore, this advanced zombie wasn't particularly fast. Even if it could charge to a certain extent, it posed no major threat to Heming. The only thing Heming found troublesome was the iron plating inside the creature's body, which made it impossible to sever its limbs or even its head. The only viable option now was to cut it in half at the waist.
Heming moved slowly, waiting for the zombie to charge. Once it did, he would have a one-to-two-second window to slice through its waist from behind.
"Wah!" The advanced zombie swung its chainsaw and rushed forward. Heming seized the moment, dodged the attack with a light sidestep, and delivered a horizontal slash just as the zombie began to turn.
"Whew." Heming let out a long sigh. If this guy had come along with a group of regular zombies, it wouldn't have been nearly as fun.
"Hey, Ming, come up quickly!" Sheni was frantic up above. Seeing that Heming had finished the fight, she immediately called for him to come up.
Heming retrieved the chainsaw from the advanced zombie and climbed back up. He decided he would never jump down so rashly again; if he encountered another advanced zombie, he would use the chainsaw to test it out.
On the first floor, Heming and Sheni finally found sunlight coming through the ventilation ducts. Heming scanned the surroundings before jumping down. The place was littered with zombie corpses; perhaps someone had already escaped from the upper floors.
"Sheni, don't come down. We're really lucky—I don't know what kind of formidable creature this is!" It wasn't until Heming landed that he spotted a Red Monster, much taller than himself, devouring the zombies on the ground. It was likely far more dangerous than the advanced zombie.
"Whoa, what is that thing? Ming, you'd better come back up!" Sheni couldn't see the Red Monster from her position, but she could tell from Heming's tone that things had taken a turn for the worse.
"It's too late, it saw me. You stay up there!" Heming started the chainsaw, preparing to deal with the charging monster.
The Red Monster was humanoid, but it lacked a face; its mouth was located where a human's neck would be. It had arms and legs, and one could clearly see long claws on its hands, with green liquid dripping from them. If he wasn't mistaken, that was definitely venom.
The Red Monster crawled over rapidly. Heming was already prepared and charged straight at it with the chainsaw.
The Red Monster suddenly stopped and spat out a glob of yellow liquid. Heming threw the chainsaw just in time; it collided with the venom and struck the Red Monster, carving a deep gash into its body as green fluid sprayed outward.
Seizing the opportunity, Heming rushed in front of the monster and swung his blade, cutting the Red Monster in two. He didn't have to worry about the monster's blood infecting him, as the game's instructions had clearly stated that it was not contagious.
"Sheni, you can come down now. Phew, this guy made me waste a chainsaw!" Heming said into the ventilation duct while pulling out his radio.
"Hello, hello, this is Heming. This is Heming. Rie, Rie, can you hear me?"
"Heming... Heming... this is Rie... please speak..."
"I've discovered a brand-new enemy. It's red, humanoid, attacks other zombies, moves very fast, and spits venom. Also, its claws are likely a very dangerous weapon. Please be careful!"
"Received... I will notify the others here..."
"Good. I'm continuing forward. If possible, I'll reach your location as soon as I can!"
"Mm... be careful... Heming..."
"Understood... I will..."
Heming put away the radio and looked at the Red Monster on the ground. He intended to check on the chainsaw, but found it had been almost entirely corroded away.
"Let's go. We're heading to the Gun Shop across the way first!" Heming checked his surroundings to ensure no other creatures were present.
"It seems a bit difficult to go out now..." From her position, Sheni could clearly see the scene outside.
On the street outside the building, countless zombies were wandering. Among them, one could vaguely see a few holding weapons; even without chainsaws, kitchen knives and axes were quite threatening.
"It looks like we can't go out this way. Let's look for a kitchen nearby. If there are gas canisters in the kitchen, things will be much easier!" Heming suggested.
Sheni agreed immediately. On the way, she kept talking about how sharp Heming's mind was and how amazing he was.
The first floor seemed much quieter than the upper levels. The pair only encountered a few zombies along the way. Of course, Heming and Sheni fought with extreme caution every time; there was only one path if bitten by a zombie, and that was to become one.
The kitchen door was open. Upon entering, Heming felt annoyed: three advanced zombies wielding kitchen knives were wandering inside. He handed his gun to Sheni, drew his Japanese sword, and charged.
Kitchen knives were definitely easier to deal with than chainsaws. If he had tried to clash his Japanese sword against a chainsaw, the blade surely wouldn't have held up, but kitchen knives were different. As long as he timed it right, these advanced zombies with their short-range weapons were quickly sliced in two.
Just as Heming had anticipated, he essentially took down one with every strike. These three advanced zombies fell to the ground without posing any threat to him at all.
"Bang!" Sheni suddenly fired at the ceiling. Heming was startled and quickly retreated. He knew she wouldn't fire randomly; her shooting at the ceiling was proof that something was up there.
"Ming, be careful! I hit it, but I don't know what it was!" Sheni shouted.
Heming looked around but couldn't find any enemies. He found a corner and watched vigilantly.
Sheni slowly moved toward Heming. When he had taken down the last zombie, she had clearly seen a spider preparing to ambush him. In the emergency, she had fired, but after being hit, the creature had vanished.
"I see it. Give me the gun, Sheni." Heming had noticed transparent liquid dripping from the ceiling opposite them.
Sheni tossed the gun to Heming. He caught it and fired three shots in rapid succession. The bullets struck the transparent monster directly. The creature let out a low cry and fell, revealing its true form: a green spider. Yes, it was definitely a spider, though the two fangs by its mouth were a bit longer than usual.
Seeing this, Heming immediately pulled out his radio.
"Rie, Rie, this is Heming."
"Heming... received... we are currently resisting a large group of zombies... speak freely..."
"I've discovered another new type of enemy. It's an insect, a spider type. Note that it is transparent while moving and only reveals its true form when attacking. You can easily deal with it using a gun!"
"Good... understood... you be careful..."
Heming put away the radio, handed the gun back to Sheni, and began searching for gas canisters. The kitchen wasn't large, and it contained a walk-in freezer. Heming didn't go inside to check, fearing that some other monster might be lurking within.
There were four gas canisters in total. Heming carried them one by one into the lobby.
Now, he had to figure out a way to get the canisters out.
Should he clear the second floor and throw them down from there? Perhaps that was a way.
"This is the Broadcast Station. There are seven of us here. We are currently surrounded by zombies outside. If possible, we hope someone with good weapons can come to save us. We have a vehicle here that can be driven."
"We don't have any weapons and can't hold out for long. If possible, we hope someone comes to rescue us as soon as possible."
"Repeating..."
"Ah... what is that?... Watch out, it's behind you..."
"My god... we're finished... they can fly..."
The broadcast ended, and those people were likely already dead. At least now, everyone knew of a brand-new enemy.
