On the battlefield, most of the Kumogakure shinobi had already realized that this war was about to end.
Obviously, victory in this battle belonged to Kirigakure.
For a time, every Kumogakure shinobi felt utterly ashamed. They had never imagined that one day, they would be defeated by Kirigakure.
Yet no matter how unwilling they were to accept it, they could only face reality. This time, Kumogakure had truly lost.
With Kakashi and the Fourth Raikage returning, the battle was completely over. Whether Kirigakure or Kumogakure shinobi, everyone ceased fighting and returned to their respective formations.
There were no negotiations. Once the end of the war was confirmed, Mei Terumi and the Fourth Raikage seemed to reach an unspoken understanding, both ordering their forces to swiftly withdraw to the rear.
They merely left behind teams of around a hundred men each to clean up the battlefield.
In truth, the casualties suffered by Kirigakure and Kumogakure in this war were not all that different.
Once the battlefield had been cleared, Mei Terumi learned of Kirigakure's losses. Fewer than a thousand shinobi had died, though the number became much larger when the wounded were included.
Kumogakure's situation was much the same. Their death toll was only slightly higher than Kirigakure's, at roughly a thousand or so.
For a war involving tens of thousands, this number of dead shinobi was not particularly high.
Even so, after learning the casualty figures for their respective villages, a trace of sorrow still appeared on Mei Terumi's and the Fourth Raikage's faces.
However, Mei Terumi quickly composed herself. In her view, compared to restoring Kirigakure's confidence, such sacrifices were worth it. Even if the losses had been twice as great, she would still have chosen this path.
