Lin Xiaobai's face turned beet red, as if it could drip water, and she nodded shyly. "Mm, it's just... that time of the month!" Her voice even carried a hint of a tremor.
"Uh! That time of the month! Then, then what can I do? I can't exactly make it go away!" Su Ke immediately felt awkward as well. The two of them stood there, both blushing furiously, staring at each other.
"I can't move right now. I'm afraid if I do, it'll get worse. Could you go to the supermarket nearby and buy me a pack of sanitary pads?" Once Lin Xiaobai had pointed out the true identity of her "Aunt Flo," she felt a sense of relief, and her speech became much smoother.
"Oh!" Su Ke nodded out of pure reflex, but the moment he thought about having to go into a supermarket to find that item, his heart rate spiked. He was the type who wouldn't even glance sideways when walking through his own family's small convenience store.
Just then, Su Ke heard the notification chime of the Flower Picking System in his mind. He checked it, and sure enough, a new task had appeared on the electronic screen.
"Task: Help Lin Xiaobai purchase sanitary pads; Reward: Street Basketball Mastery (Beginner)."
"Seriously?" Su Ke muttered to himself. It seemed he had no choice but to go. Completing this task would bring him one step closer to unlocking the system's help options.
Seeing Su Ke nod, Lin Xiaobai continued, "Go buy a pack of Whisper, the daytime kind. The one that says 'dry and snug' on the package!"
Looking at Lin Xiaobai's flushed face, her eyes like pools of water, and her hesitant, expectant expression, Su Ke suddenly felt the weight on his shoulders increase significantly. He took a deep breath. "Sister Xiaobai, leave this to me! I guarantee I'll get it done properly!" With that, he turned and left.
At that moment, Su Ke's figure carried a solemnity reminiscent of the line, "The wind blows cold, the Yi River chills; the hero goes forth, never to return." Seeing Su Ke walk out the door, Lin Xiaobai finally set her mind at ease. She looked around; there wasn't a soul in the first-floor lobby besides her.
Sigh, Little Brother Su is reliable after all! she muttered to herself. Only then did she carefully sit back down in her chair. She had been truly frantic just moments ago. She had waited for ages without anyone coming downstairs, and finally seeing Su Ke had felt like finding a life-saving straw.
She felt that damp, sticky sensation beneath her, which was incredibly uncomfortable, but now that she had entrusted the task to Su Ke, she had no choice but to endure it for a while longer.
As Su Ke stepped out of the glass doors of the beauty salon, his firm resolve immediately crumbled. His heart raced, and he struggled to steady his breathing as he looked around.
Less than two hundred meters from the beauty salon was a shopping center called Jingkelong. It was a decent-sized supermarket, with the first floor dedicated to groceries and the upper floors filled with a dazzling array of goods. However, Su Ke wasn't there to browse.
When he reached the entrance of Jingkelong, Su Ke looked at the bustling crowd, gritted his teeth, and steeled himself to walk inside. Fortunately, he had already formed a complete plan. He grabbed a shopping basket and headed straight for the food section.
Sunflower seeds, potato chips—he bought a whole pile of them. Luckily, he had enough money on him, so he didn't feel the pinch. He filled the basket to the brim, his heart pounding the entire time. Although he had decided to take a roundabout route toward the hygiene products section, the mere thought of it made him incredibly nervous.
"Clatter!" Su Ke suddenly heard a sound, as if something had fallen to the floor. Following the noise, he saw a container of chewing gum. Without a second thought, he looked up, intending to alert the person in front of him.
"Hey! Your Extra!"
As soon as he said it, Su Ke felt the phrase sounded familiar, though he couldn't quite place why.
Hearing Su Ke's voice, the girl in front turned around. Before anything else happened, she began to frown. She looked Su Ke up and down, her eyes darting over him while she shook her head, her lips curling in a look of utter disdain.
The girl looked to be about twenty-two or twenty-three, standing around 1.7 meters tall—not much shorter than Su Ke himself.
She wore a black T-shirt with the character for "Dance" written in an artistic font. Her figure was slim and exquisite, with a well-defined bust and a waist that could be gripped with one hand. The hem of her shirt half-covered her bottom, and she wore camouflage cargo shorts. Her toned, long legs were bare, showing a hint of muscle that made them look even tighter. On her feet were a pair of Nike Cortez sneakers with a blue sole and white swoosh. Her entire outfit radiated vitality and youthful charm.
"Pervert!" Seeing that Su Ke looked like a student, the girl turned her head away immediately.
"Seriously?" Su Ke cursed inwardly. What kind of bad luck was this? He said one sentence and got called a creep. Did he really look that obvious?
"Hey, your Extra, do you want it or not?" He was already feeling anxious, and hearing that made his temper flare, adding a note of irritation to his voice.
"Ugh! You little brat, learn some manners! 'Your Extra'? It's your Extra! That pickup line is so last year, how boring!" The girl in the "Dance" shirt gave a disdainful sneer, leaving Su Ke feeling incredibly awkward.
Su Ke finally remembered—wasn't that the advertising slogan for Extra gum from last year? He had been trying to be helpful by pointing out she'd dropped something, but his kindness had been treated like malice, and he'd been mistaken for a creep. His fair face felt a bit unnatural as he exhaled and pointed at the gum that had rolled under the shelf.
"Are you kidding me? Is that yours or not?"
The girl in the "Dance" shirt followed the direction of Su Ke's finger, her expression shifting slightly, showing a hint of apology. Still, she gave a soft huff, bent down, and picked up the container. Before leaving, she didn't even say thank you; she just turned her head and walked away, leaving Su Ke with nothing but the back of her head and a ponytail that swayed with her steps.
"Tch, what a drag!" The more Su Ke thought about it, the angrier he became. He glared at the girl's shapely backside for a moment, and only after he felt he'd gotten his fill did he start to feel a little better.
However, he still had to face the real problem. Lin Xiaobai was still waiting for him to save her back at Fangfei Yiren. If he delayed any longer, he feared he'd return to a bloodbath.
Looking at his shopping basket, now filled with potato chips and biscuits, he had no choice but to steel himself and take the roundabout path. The closer he got, the more nervous he felt, as if every customer around him was staring at him. His back began to tingle.
The more nervous he became, the less he dared to approach. He shuffled his feet, circling the hygiene products section several times, which began to draw the attention of some of the sales clerks.
Seriously, they aren't going to mistake me for a shoplifter, are they? Su Ke felt anxious. Being watched by those clerks made him even more uncomfortable. His gaze darted around, his steps became erratic, and the more he acted this way, the more suspicious he appeared.
