Ch. 141A Hero's End
Chapter Summary: The Hero’s Curtain Call
Key Plot Points and Events
- Hyuga Kagami successfully exposes Uchiha Madara’s apparent death as an Izanagi-based deception. Madara had programmed himself to revive five minutes after truly dying.
- Madara refuses to surrender his Rinnegan, even though one eye has already lost much of its power. He uses Limbo: Border Jail, sending two invisible shadow duplicates to attack Kagami.
- Because Kagami possesses a Rinnegan and Sage Mode, he can perceive and counter Limbo. His Sage Art: Lightning Style destroys the shadows and severely injures Madara.
- Kagami strikes Madara through the forehead with lightning, killing him. Before dying, Madara realizes Kagami is likely a ninja from the future, explaining his knowledge of Madara’s history and hidden cave.
- Kagami reflects that Madara’s death is preferable to his continuing as a manipulated pawn in another person’s resurrection plan. He decides not to use Madara’s weakened Rinnegan immediately, intending to let Nagato restore and nourish the eyes before eventually taking their power.
- Kagami then enters the sealed Chibaku Tensei space and confronts Black Zetsu.
- Black Zetsu begs for mercy, offering Kagami a powerful position after Kaguya’s resurrection. He argues that Kagami cannot extract the Six Paths power fused into his body because Kagami has not yet reached the Six Paths level.
- Kagami admits this limitation but reveals that he has another means of dealing with Black Zetsu: a black hole opens to the Kamui Dimension, where the raging Ten-Tails is visible, ending the chapter on a cliffhanger.
Character Developments
- Hyuga Kagami is portrayed as calculating, ruthless, and exceptionally confident. He anticipates Madara’s tricks, counters one of the Rinnegan’s ultimate techniques, and remains focused on his larger objectives rather than becoming emotionally attached to victory.
- Kagami also reveals a pragmatic attitude toward power: he accepts that Madara’s Rinnegan cannot currently be used effectively and plans to exploit Nagato’s ability to restore it.
- Uchiha Madara is shown as proud and defiant even in defeat. His refusal to let anyone claim his eyes reflects his lifelong independence and determination. However, he finally recognizes that Kagami’s knowledge indicates a connection to the future and dies with a mixture of realization, helplessness, and relief.
- Black Zetsu, normally manipulative and confident, is reduced to pleading and bargaining. Although desperate, he retains hope that Kagami lacks the power to separate him from the Six Paths energy within his body.
Significant Themes
- The end of greatness and mortality: Madara’s death reinforces the idea that even the strongest shinobi cannot escape mortality.
- Power versus manipulation: Kagami suggests that Madara’s attempt to return may only have made him a pawn in someone else’s resurrection scheme.
- Strategic superiority: The battle emphasizes preparation, knowledge, and the ability to anticipate an opponent’s hidden techniques.
- The fall of legends: The title reflects Madara’s final defeat—the “hero” or legendary warrior’s curtain call after a lifetime of ambition and conflict.
- Pragmatic ambition: Kagami is willing to delay gratification and use others’ abilities, such as Nagato’s, to obtain greater power later.
Character Interactions
- Kagami and Madara engage in a battle of wills as much as a physical confrontation. Madara is shocked by Kagami’s precision, while Kagami treats Madara’s legendary status with detached respect rather than fear.
- Madara acknowledges Kagami’s assistance in eliminating a traitor but still refuses to cooperate or surrender his eyes.
- Before his death, Madara and Kagami share a moment of mutual recognition: Madara deduces Kagami’s future origin, while Kagami frames Madara’s death as a more dignified fate than continued manipulation.
- Kagami and Black Zetsu have a stark power imbalance. Black Zetsu pleads and attempts to negotiate, but Kagami remains cold and reveals that the Ten-Tails may provide the means to overcome Zetsu’s final defense.
